Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Technician position provides support for a basic science research laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The applicant will be responsible for performing general and more specific laboratory tasks, including in vitro and in vivo experiments (tissue culture, PCR, animal necropsy, etc) as directed by the supervisor and general laboratory maintenance (ordering supplies, laboratory cleaning, inventory organization, stocking solutions, sterilization of reagents and supplies). This position requires 100% effort towards research projects.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma/GED plus 2 years experience in performing tests in a research laboratory required.

  • The applicant should be able to move and clean laboratory equipment and formulate media.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Performs research experiments as required or assigned including assistance other laboratory personnel.

  • Ensure the lab is maintained in good order, which involves inventory assessment of reagents and consumables.

  • Picks p material from the department office, taking it to the laboratory, and putting it away in its appropriate place.

  • Carries out various duties including making stock solutions.

  • Ensure that the lab is clean (which will involve wiping down laboratory benches, autoclaving glassware and waste, putting autoclaved glassware away, defrosting freezers, disinfection of incubators).

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
