Job description

Who we are looking for:

The role of the Multi-Asset strategy team is to support the growth in State Street’s Global Markets business. It combines our unique capabilities in data and analytics to better serve our clients and build relationships with new customers. The aim of the group is to create a full spectrum of proprietary indicators, tools and ideas that enable our clients to identify opportunities, develop new perspectives and make more informed investment decisions in the global asset markets. The Junior Equity Strategist will be based in Boston and the key responsibility will be to provide research and analytical support for the Boston strategy team, with a view to developing into a strategist in the future.

This role can be performed in a light hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements. However, four day a week office attendance is a requirement.

What you will be responsible for:

As a junior equity strategist, you will:

  • Support Senior strategists in providing regional / sector / style equity recommendations

  • Analyse / model fundamental trends (earnings, margins, valuation, etc) in the coverage markets

  • Combine the deep understanding of those fundamental trends with SSGM proprietary sentiment indicators to access relative attractiveness of the markets

  • Provide commentary incorporating SSGM's proprietary measures of investor behavior, risk and inflation indicators with sector, industry and fundamental analysis with specific focus on equity markets

  • Write thought pieces, contribute to the portfolio of recommended asset allocation ideas and help to produce longer-term research insights.

  • Present research ideas to broader research team and sales force

  • In the future the aim will be to present the research to clients and work with the sales team to provide ongoing coverage to large hedge fund, institutional and central bank clients.

  • Work towards becoming a key voice for equity market views in the North American team and a key research contact for clients in this time zone

  • Candidate should be a self-driven, energetic and creative thinker with a strong curiosity about the drivers of asset risk and returns, economics, aggregate financial markets and correlations and causations of interactions of the relevant variables therein

  • Candidate should be able to have a broad understanding of economic and political factors that impact equity markets.

  • Strong written communication skills. One of the core functions is the generation and co-ordination of written research, so the ability to write clear, concise, and digestible research is critical.

  • Strong quantitative skills. The candidate should be highly numerate with a strong familiarity with statistical techniques.

Education & Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background in economics or finance.  

  • The candidate should have at least 2 to 4 years of experience in equity strategy (sell or buy side).

  • Familiarity with investment analysis, database management, valuation and factor investing are essential.  Understanding of broader macro investing / asset allocation is desirable.

  • Analytical – Ability to assimilate and analyse complex market data and present one’s own ideas in written and presentation form, as well as to support the work of senior strategists. The need to work to tight deadlines will be required.

  • Follow thought leadership research in the field.

  • Communication – Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Technical – extensive experience with Python, Excel and PowerPoint required. Comfort with Bloomberg, BQL, and DataStream is preferred

Salary Range:

$175,000 - $175,000 Annual
