Job description

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a global, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., working to improve environmental sustainability, human health, and resilience in the built environment through its programs and rating systems including LEED. Today, people in over 150 countries and territories live, work, and learn in LEED certified buildings, communities, and cities that protect health, climate, and natural resources, and enhance quality of life.

The Account Management team is responsible for the retention and engagement of USGBC’s organizational member accounts, a critical segment of USGBC’s community. With 5,000 industry leading organizations, USGBC members bring our mission to life through their support and participation in the evolution of LEED and the advancement of the larger green building movement. USGBC’s Account Management team leverages the membership program to engage accounts, identify opportunities for further engagement, and meet recruitment, retention, and re-engagement goals. To be successful on this team individuals must be adaptable, creative, have a high level of maturity, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

The Intern will contribute to account management goals by participating in projects and activities that inform engagement strategies for new, existing, or lapsed member accounts. The intern will develop and lead a long-term project throughout their term while supporting one-off tasks and operational procedures. Past projects include research studies, benchmarking analysis, industry analysis, and curating and deploying targeted campaigns. Operational tasks may include drafting communications, making phone calls, generating invoices, editing Salesforce records, and updating PowerPoint decks and other resources. This position requires a proven ability to self‐manage, prioritize competing demands, and meet short deadlines. Strong research, data analysis, project management, communication, organizational skills and high attention to detail are a must. The intern must have an entrepreneurial mindset, be able to collaborate with diverse teams and effectively engage in team dynamics.

  • Creating and editing account management resources such as email communications, SmartSheet files, and PowerPoint decks
  • Developing a better understanding of USGBC & GBCI’s programs, values, and member base, which includes organizations from a variety of sectors
  • Conducting industry research on specific members, markets, or sectors to better address and meet the needs of existing members, and inform/evolve strategies that seek to develop new opportunities with prospective members
  • Participating in team meetings and presentations
  • Work with other members of the team to ensure consistency and the highest possible quality
  • Other projects as assigned

Education & Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Business, or related field (or currently in progress)
