Job description

Delivering video and audio to hundreds of millions of users globally is no small feat, and we’re looking for a seasoned engineering leader to help grow that by an order of magnitude.

The Senior Engineering Manager will work with engineering teams and product management to execute on our vision to become the leading unified solution for host, share, and stream video content by implementing and delivering reliable solutions, establishing and promoting technology standards and leading adoption of engineering best practices. This individual will engage hands-on with engineers across the world within our engineering teams, rapidly delivering solutions, and creating strong bonds between Engineering and Product organizations that foster unparalleled video experiences for our customers.

The purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership and management in the design, development, and operation of key products and services that make up Brightcove's world-class video platform. Expertise in areas such as video streaming technologies, native cloud (SaaS) application development, systems architecture, data management, testing, SRE/DevOps, and security is essential.

Job Responsibilities 

Engineering management responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage end-to-end project delivery, ensuring all deliverables meet quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints.
  • Own sprint planning by working closely with the team to define goals, scope tasks, and set realistic timelines.
  • Drive execution by coordinating cross-functional teams, tracking progress, and proactively addressing potential blockers or risks.
  • Partner with product managers to define and prioritize requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate shared systems, resolve dependencies, and optimize technical solutions.
  • Lead engineering-focused initiatives such as Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), system scalability, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Develop and implement best practices for engineering workflows, automation, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure alignment of project goals with broader organizational objectives and engineering strategy.

General management responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of managers and individual contributors, providing strategic partnership and leadership to help drive employee engagement within the local region.
  • Support to enhance the employee experience and culture for Brightcove’s Mexico region alongside the HR department.
  • Foster a positive company culture, ensuring high employee morale, engagement, and retention.
  • Be a point of reference to leaders in the region to support and communicate organizational trends and news to the rest of the teams in MX supported by the local HR team.
  • Provide guidance and information from top management to local engineering teams regarding, workforce, updates, organizational changes aligning Brightcove’s values and behaviors to the business objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on regional performance, key initiatives, and challenges.
  • Communicate corporate goals, policies, and changes to regional staff, ensuring alignment and consistency across locations.
  • Partner with HR  to advise and execute learning initiatives including succession planning, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives with the local teams.
  • Support in the corporate policies/programs/procedures etc. for them to be applied and followed.

Qualifications/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, technology management, business management or similar.
  • 8-12 years to professional experience with 3-5+ years of experience in a leadership role, preferably in software development within a SaaS Software tech environment.
  • Must have critical skills: communication skills, leadership, ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Must possess strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to align the teams goals and deliverables to the organization objectives. 
  • Strong analytical thinking; Ability to collect, assess, and interpret data while reporting back to various internal audiences
  • Ability to collaborate with software and IT engineers as well as management, creating artifacts specific to each audience.
  • Ability to effectively manage a team of engineers, fostering collaboration, inspiring and mentoring the team. 
  • Experience in software product engineering, deployment, and integration.
  • Demonstrated experience in escalation and risk management.
  • Experience with standard office applications (ie, Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
  • Experience with Atlassian products: Jira and Confluence.
  • Positive attitude and high collaborator with a passion for relationship building, creative thinking and problem solving, and making an impact.
