Job description

About Optimal Workshop

Optimal Workshop is a leading provider of user experience (UX) research tools that empower organizations to create exceptional digital products. Our platform offers a suite of tools for conducting various UX research methods, including usability testing, card sorting, and tree testing. We are committed to helping our clients make data-driven decisions and deliver outstanding user experiences.

About the role

We’re looking for a Commercial Analyst Intern to join our team at Optimal. In this role, you’ll apply data analysis and research techniques to help us reconnect with past users of Optimal and identify new opportunities to strengthen relationships and drive growth.

This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or current student in Commerce who wants to gain practical experience in a commercial role and further develop their analytical skills. You’ll work closely with our small  Finance team in Wellington and collaborate with our Revenue team in North America.

This role will be based in our Wellington HQ on Courtenay Place and will be between 20-32 hours a week for 3 months.

What you’ll do:

  • Customer Account Research: Analyse past customer data (including names and email addresses, older customer databases, and free trial accounts) to find people who have used Optimal before
  • Finding Current Information: Use online tools (like Google, LinkedIn, etc.) and search terms (e.g., UX, design, product) to figure out where these past users are working now and what their roles are
  • Data Collection: Keep a clear, organised record of the people you find, including their name, company, job role, and industry, all in a structured spreadsheet
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success teams to coordinate outreach efforts and ensure alignment with overall business objectives
  • Reporting: Keep track of how your research and outreach are going, and report back on progress and results

Who we’re looking for:

  • A recent graduate or current student: Someone who is studying Commerce, Business, Economics, or a related field
  • Customer Research skills: If you’ve done any customer research or worked in a research role before (even as part of your studies or internships), that’s a great start! We’re looking for someone with strong attention to detail and  analytical skills.
  • Basic online research: Familiarity with tools like Google and LinkedIn (or other social media) is helpful
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: The ability to craft clear, compelling messages
  • Teamwork and independence: You’ll be someone who can work independently and as part of a team, even if the team is spread across different countries. Being able to collaborate and take initiative is key
  • Organisational skills: This role requires you to manage multiple tasks at once, so we’re looking for someone who is organised, can stay on top of deadlines, and thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest in UX, design, or SaaS: If you’re passionate about these areas, that's a bonus, but it's not a requirement. We're more interested in your enthusiasm to learn and contribute!

This role is perfect if you're looking to gain hands-on experience in research, data, and communication in a fast-growing company.
