Job Summary

The Director of Indirect Procurement is responsible for leading the indirect procurement function within Harley Davidson. This role oversees the strategic sourcing, negotiation, and management of non-production-related goods and services (such as office supplies, IT, marketing, professional services, travel, etc.). The Director will manage a team of procurement professionals, develop and implement procurement strategies, optimize supplier relationships, and ensure cost-effective purchasing that aligns with the company's goals and values.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead and manage the indirect procurement team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance.
  • Develop and implement the overall indirect procurement strategy aligned with business objectives
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across departments (e.g., IT, HR, Marketing, Finance) to understand needs and optimize purchasing processes.

 

Procurement Process & Policy Development:

  • Oversee the procurement lifecycle for all indirect categories, including sourcing, contracting, purchasing, and supplier management.
  • Create, enforce, and continually improve procurement policies and procedures to ensure compliance, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and technology improvements to streamline procurement activities.

 

Supplier Management & Negotiations:

  • Lead negotiations with key suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers to ensure optimal service and performance.
  • Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations and manage the supplier base to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

 

Cost Management & Optimization:

  • Analyze spending patterns and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for procurement activities and report on savings, efficiencies, and supplier performance.
  • Ensure cost-effective purchasing strategies are in place for indirect spend categories.

 

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on all indirect procurement matters.
  • Collaborate with legal, finance, and other functions to ensure compliance and alignment in contracting and sourcing efforts.
  • Regularly communicate procurement strategy, performance metrics, and opportunities for improvement to senior leadership.

 

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Manage procurement risks and ensure adherence to internal controls, legal requirements, and ethical standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, market trends, and regulatory changes related to procurement.

 

Team Development:

  • Build and maintain a high-performing indirect procurement team through recruitment, training, and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented culture within the procurement department.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field.
  • MBA or advanced degree is preferred. 
  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or similar certification preferred.
Experience Requirements

Experience:

 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in procurement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing indirect procurement categories.
  • Proven track record of managing large and complex procurement operations.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, sourcing methodologies, and supplier relationship management.

 

Skills:

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on cost reduction and efficiency.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Familiarity with procurement laws, regulations, and compliance standards.

 

Occasional travel may be required for supplier visits, negotiations, or corporate events.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
