Head of News and Features (EN Sports Editor)

About the role 

North Star Network are seeking an experienced sports editor to oversee our content production for several English-language sports assets including Sportsmole and Football Whispers.

We’re looking for a candidate to drive our editorial content production of sports news and features specifically targeting Google Top Stories, leveraging the sites’ authority, niche identities, and ensuring we have visibility in a competitive space.

Rich knowledge of football is essential, as well as a demonstrable recent track record of editorial leadership and overseeing growth in a web-focused environment.

As our Head of News and Features you will:

• Editorial oversight of team of news and features writers across NSN’s EN portfolio

• Monthly planning assignments, performance reporting + analysis

• Specific site-by-site and matchday-vs-non-matchday strategies

• Collaboration with social media coordinator to optimise brand engagement and social traffic on top stories subjects

• Revise/re-define site-by-site quality standards

• Recruitment: Maintain funnel to filter/improve all news and features  writers entering the EN media ecosystem

Your profile should include :

• 7+ years of experience in sports journalism, including direct editorial and personnel management

• Track record as leading editorial influence on a site with consistent of presence on top stories, having navigated changing routes to audience (social, Discover, organic)

• Keen news judgment, with experience framing stories engagingly for readers

• Proven success in setting targets and creating data-based editorial strategies that lead to audience growth

• High-end knowledge of Premier League and International football, other sports is a plus

• Experience in underpinning creative news-focused content with sound SEO best practices
