Join ENMAX as a Civil Engineer and bring your strong technical abilities to our Asset Performance, Standards & Equipment Team. We're looking for a professional who excels in problem-solving and decision-making, and who can work effectively with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams. Your role will involve supporting asset maintenance, protection, and the development of construction/material standards within the utilities sector. 

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Asset Performance: this task includes site visits to evaluate the aging infrastructure, preparation of civil assessments providing recommendations, and preparation of field instructions to repair the hazard if not capital.  

  • Asset protection: Work closely with contractors to protect ENMAX infrastructure during nearby construction projects. This includes reviewing contractor plans and providing feedback to mitigate risk. 

  • Standards: develop, support, review and authenticate some construction and material standards for civil infrastructure, underground chambers, substation structures, buildings, and equipment foundations.    

  • Stakeholder collaboration: Collaborate with all internal stakeholders such as Projects, Engineering, Planning, Field Services, Safety, and Supply Chain Management. 

  • Technical support: Provide civil technical support to staff on the application of standards, technical guidelines, and specifications. 

  • Stakeholder Engagement: 
    - Coordinate with Supply Chain Management to assist with procurement contracts for materials and equipment to ensure optimum quality and value of material supply.  
    - Facilitate and document feedback from internal and external stakeholders, addressing concerns and ensuring alignment with ENMAX standards. 
    - Work with external stakeholders such as manufacturers, suppliers, provincial and national standards organizations, and regulatory bodies.  

Education Required: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution 

  • P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscientists in Alberta (APEGA), or eligible for immediate Professional registration 

 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience in structural engineering including work with reinforced concrete, structural steel, wood.  

  • Detailed knowledge of industry codes and standards. 

  • Good troubleshooting skills with experience creating and interpreting civil and structural drawings. 

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in reviewing and approving civil and structural designs.  

  • Ability to work as required and conduct site inspections in confined spaces (ENMAX training provided). 

  • Knowledge of civil and structural design computer programs, such as RISA. 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and other related software.

  • Demonstrates strong technical and business writing skills, with the ability to clearly communicate engineering direction  

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to build key relationships  

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment and works well under pressure 

  • Must be able to make decisions quickly and adapt with ease to changing priorities 

  • Experience with implementing new ideas to improve existing methods and processes 

  • Ability to facilitate meetings and lead collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at our South Service Center location (8820 52 St. SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
