Job description

As the Financial Analyst II- Property & Casualty, you are on the team that analyzes, understands, and explains the How & Why behind monthly, quarterly, and annual Property & Casualty (P&C) business and financial results.  People depend on you to know what’s going on with P&C — you play an integral role in assembling the data on current and historical results; in projecting future business performance; and in crafting financial plans for this year, next year, and beyond.

You have:

  • The capacity to self-direct your work, to question the data, to solve difficult puzzles, and to meet regular deadlines
  • The ability to figure things out, balanced with a willingness to seek help when things aren’t coming together for you
  • A good sense for financial & business data-analysis (e.g. income statement, premium-loss-exposure metrics, etc.)
  • A “head for numbers”, combined with an attention to details and an actuary’s feel for when something is wrong with the data/analysis you’re working with
  • An ability to become skilled with your team’s preexisting practices & protocols
  • The confidence to try out new and creative approaches/solutions, even if your ideas might ultimately fail
  • Good skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, relational databases, and computer/software applications in general
  • A working knowledge of the insurance business, and P&C insurance in particular
  • Above all: An attitude of optimism, self-confidence, creativity, ambition, and enthusiasm to learn new things while advancing your career

Job Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree, and 3-5 years of relevant work experience

Pay Range:

$61,900 - $91,300

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.

Horace Mann was founded in 1945 by two Springfield, Illinois, teachers who saw a need for quality, affordable auto insurance for teachers. Since then, we’ve broadened our mission to helping all educators protect what they have today and prepare for a successful tomorrow.  And with our broadened mission has come corporate growth:  We serve more than 4,100 school districts nationwide, we’re publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: HMN) and we have more than $12 billion in assets.

We’re motivated by the fact that educators take care of our children’s future, and we believe they deserve someone to look after theirs.  We help educators identify their financial goals and develop plans to achieve them.  This includes insurance to protect what they have today and financial products to help them prepare for their future. Our tailored offerings include special rates and benefits for educators.
