Senior Communications Specialist

Position Overview 


The Senior Communications Specialist will understand current CMS communications needs, assess areas to improve communications, and develop an effective communications strategy to support current efforts reaching health care insurers, providers, and administrators. The Senior Communications Specialist will be responsible for using integrated marketing communications tools and tactics to direct communications efforts, preparing plain language communications, materials, and presentations, and conducting regular interactions with the customer to ensure objectives are being met. The Senior Communications Specialist will be a key player in a collaborative team, working closely with policy experts, compliance officers, and technical teams to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information. 


Responsibilities

 

 

  • Lead or participate thoughtfully in multidisciplinary teams implementing and advising on communications activities, policies, and programs. 
  • Provide the energy, direction, and organization needed to help keep projects on time and on budget. 
  • Facilitate communications between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute a strategic communication plan to clearly define goals, objectives, audiences, key messaging, communication and outreach channels, branding and template requirements, engagement calendars, and project timeline. 
  • As part of the strategic communications plan, develop a strategic social media plan to outline the audience, key messaging, social media channels, branding, engagement calendar, metrics and evaluation, and planning timelines. 
  • Assess challenges, opportunities to improve, and risks to develop a cohesive, clear strategy for communication with stakeholders, including health care insurers, providers, administrators, and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare plain language messaging to effectively communicate to CMS’ audiences via multiple communication channels (e.g., help desk operations, webinars, website content, emails, social media, etc.).
  • Manage help desk operations, including process changes, inquiries and responses, and tracking and reporting.
  • Facilitate information sharing with other contractor entities. 
  • Compile customer experience satisfaction surveys to identify opportunities for improvement, compile summary data, and share results with the customer in quarterly reports.  
     
Qualifications

  • US citizen or Authorized to Work and lived in the US for 3 of the last 5 years. Must be able to obtain a U.S. Federal government client badge and pass a government Public Trust.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree – minimum of 6 years of professional experience in communications 
  • Experience: 2 years of relevant work and proven experience in health care communication, preferably with CMS, and with outreach and education in the healthcare or government sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Able to deliver high quality, effective deliverables on time and be a valuable contributor to the team’s and customers’ overall success.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to changing environment.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, high volume, fast-paced environment.
     

The salary range provided represents the estimated compensation for new hires in this position, applicable across all locations. Actual offers may vary based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and market conditions. Index complements its base salary offering with a competitive package that includes health and retirement benefits, discretionary bonuses, and reimbursement for professional development opportunities.
