Job description

Internship Description:

NEPC is seeking 2+ summer interns preferably hybrid in our Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, or Atlanta office (or virtually) who are currently pursuing their MBA or master’s degree preferably in Finance or Economics. Project assignments are available on various teams across the firm including Investment Manager Research and our Corporate Team.

Upon successful completion of the internship, interns may be invited back to participate in a Sr. Investment Associate Rotational Program lasting up to 2 years post-graduation.  Associates will cycle through different departments to gain exposure and experience. Successful Sr. Investment Associates will be placed in a permanent assignment within the firm over a 12–24-month cycle.

Please note that NEPC has designed this program specifically to attract diverse candidates and give them exposure to different areas of the firm and different asset classes.

Internship Requirements:

We are seeking candidates who have already had some exposure to the investment industry either through a permanent position or prior internships. The ideal candidate should have a strong analytical skillset, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), close attention to detail and a willingness to learn. Again, applicants should be actively pursuing their MBA or master’s degree, preferably in Finance or Economics.

Location:  We are looking for candidates to work in a hybrid model ideally in our Boston, Chicago, Atlanta or San Francisco offices. However, we are open to the intern working fully remote in a state where we are registered. There may be some limitations based on your town or county. Please provide your address/location on your resume or application.

Assignment Summaries:

*Please note that we will likely be adding one - two more projects to the program within the next few weeks.

Investment Manager Research (Project 1)

Investment Framework Project – Consolidated Tool

This intern will work closely with members of the investment manager research team to create a unified investment framework across asset classes. Currently the framework exists in multiple files, leading to potential content creep and disparities across teams. A unified framework will enhance our process, and the intern will learn about investing across private markets, public market and hedge funds.

This team is seeking an intern with effective critical thinking and communication skills. They also highly value a candidate who has some coding and excel skills and an overall quantitative mindset.

This project will allow the intern to help improve consistency in our investment approach as well as helping to reduce any room for error when completing our investment diligence. You will learn about investing across private markets, public markets and hedge funds and enhance your CIO skills.

Corporate (Project 2)

Capital Markets Assumptions Model

This project will focus on developing a stochastic framework and model across at least ten asset classes. Forecasts will apply NEPC capital market views as a guideline. The candidate will work with members of the Asset Allocation and DB Corporate teams. It is not necessary to be a capital markets expert, however the candidate should have a strong interest and willingness to learn independently.

This project will be heavily reliant on excel skills and willingness to manage large data sets as well as performing quantitative research on Capital Markets across various asset classes. The ideal candidate should have a strong analytical skillset along with the desire to research and develop capital market forecasts. Strong quantitative aptitude is a plus.

This role will allow the intern to help improve capital markets modeling and will enhance the data and decision support for clients in their evaluation of asset allocation decisions.  It would be a great fit for someone who wants to learn more about financial markets, modeling techniques and asset allocation concepts while working alongside members of various teams.
