C40 is a network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities, who are working to deliver the urgent action needed right now to confront the climate crisis, and create a future where everyone, everywhere can thrive. Mayors of C40 cities are committed to using a science-based and people-focused approach to help the world limit global heating to 1.5°C and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities. Through a Global Green New Deal, mayors are working alongside a broad coalition of representatives from labour, business, the youth climate movement and civil society to go further and faster than ever before.
C40’s team of 400+ staff is based in offices in London, in New York, Johannesburg, Singapore, Delhi, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Beijing and Paris, and individual staff based across 25+ different locations.
The strategic direction of the organisation is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors, which is chaired by Mayor Sadiq Khan of London and Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr of Freetown. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the C40 Board of Directors, responsible for operational oversight. A regionally diverse management team, led by Executive Director Mark Watts, leads the day-to-day management of C40. C40’s three core strategic funders are Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and Realdania.
Our international staff work with the C40 network under the leadership of city governments to deliver this mission. Using a data-driven approach, our team identifies and promotes the exchange of proven programmes and policies developed by cities; provides world-class research, technical expertise and access to key partners to deliver new programmes and policies with cities; and communicates cities’ individual achievements and collective leadership.

Department Description
The Regions & Mayoral Engagement Team is led by C40 Regional Directors positioned across seven regions: Africa; Central East Asia; East, Southeast Asia and Oceania; Europe; Latin America; North America; and South & West Asia. These seven regions are supported by a core, global team.
The Regions & Mayoral Engagement Team are the first points of contact for C40’s mayors, city officials and regional entities. Operationally, this team is responsible for regionally aligned delivery & political engagement, ensuring that C40 remains responsive and relevant to cities’ fluctuating needs, while building strong, lasting relations with the local stakeholders that make up the C40 network.
Position Description
The Regions & Mayoral Engagement Officer will be an essential member of the core team, supporting mayoral engagement for global milestone events and day-to-day operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the core team’s Manager to support day-to-day internal operations, and project or event-based mayoral engagement for different global milestones.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic and organised individual, able to adjust to an international working environment and remote working.
The successful candidate will have the chance to develop project coordination skills while gaining exposure to projects and events that showcase cities’ climate actions and priorities around the world, alongside international colleagues in a fast-paced and exciting global organisation.
Responsibilities:
- Consistent use of Excel and Powerpoint, analysing quantitative and/or qualitative data and translating it to presentations and resources, like guides, for internal use
- Coordination & support to the core team in internal and external meetings. This can include developing background material, scheduling across time zones, desktop research, coordinating agendas, liaising with other C40 teams and note-taking;
- Record-keeping of data central to global mayoral engagement, both for daily C40 operations and ad hoc milestone events
- Support internal knowledge sharing by coordinating the monthly political updates from all regions
- Work with other C40 teams to assist in communications with cities to ensure the successful delivery of various global projects and events
Person Specification:
- Minimum 1-year work experience in environmental policy, international development, local politics, or another related field;
- Strong project coordination & organisational skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills, with experience working across cultures and in sensitive (e.g., political) contexts preferred;
- Experience conducting data analysis and creating presentations using Microsoft Office. Keen to master new software like Salesforce;
- Excellent in time management while working remotely;
- Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are desirable but not essential;
- Passionate about C40’s mission, with a strong interest in learning about urban climate action.
Other Requirements:
Applicants must already have the right to work in India. Moderate travel will be required as part of the role.
