POSITION SUMMARY: The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position is responsible for oversight of vendors performing testing in accordance with ASTM standards, reviewing and summarizing testing and fabrication vendor deliverables, and maintaining material specifications in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section III, and applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Selects materials for the NuScale reactor pressure vessel, pressurizer, steam generator (SG), reactor vessel internals, containment pressure vessel, main steam and feedwater piping, component supports, valves, control rod drive mechanisms, and outage tooling.
- Prepares and reviews forging, piping, SG tubing, bar, and bolting material specifications.
- Prepares and reviews engineering specifications, drawings, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the reactor coolant system and nuclear steam supply system.
- Supervises NuScale material test programs that qualify new structural materials for pressure vessels in accordance with ASME BPVC Sections II, III, IX and XI, and with NRC requirements including requirements on fracture toughness and impact toughness.
- Supports standard design certification by preparing responses to regulator questions on structural material selection and procurement, equipment manufacturing, and mitigation of material aging degradations during service.
- Serves as a specialist in materials aging degradations such as stress corrosion cracking, boric acid corrosion, thermal and irradiation embrittlement, irradiation-induced void swelling, creep, stress relaxation, and wear of stainless steel, nickel-base alloy, and carbon and low alloy steel components.
- Develops material R&D programs to support design and manufacturing.
- May be relied on to provide expertise to various design and analysis teams within NSSS Engineering and also to the Office of Technology for R&D programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
- Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or similar from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required.
- Experience: 6+ years of full-time relevant working experience is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience with engineering design and materials, preferably in the nuclear industry.
- Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits:
The target pay range for this position is $108,908 - $131,441 annually. The full pay range is $97,642 - $152,722.
