The Buyer Engagement organization owns our commitment to empower hobbyists to effortlessly engage with our marketplace, driving growth and loyalty. We embody innovation, agility, and a relentless focus on the hobbyist to create exceptional experiences. Our Search Engineering Team owns delivering a best-in-class search and discovery experience that connects hobbyists with the products and content most relevant to their interests. This team thrives on a core foundation of quality, collaboration, ownership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
As an experienced Software Engineering Manager, you will lead and manage a team of engineers that focus on developing, upgrading, scaling and advancing our search platform. You will be responsible for driving the vision, guiding technical roadmaps, managing engineering workflows, and collaborating closely with our product and design teams to ensure our hobbyists can seamlessly discover products across our platform.
What you will accomplish:
Lead TCGplayer through a major phase of growth as we expand internationally and delight across the globe
Provide leadership and management to software engineers to create scalable search solutions for the TCGplayer platform
Assist in the development of technical strategies and business decisions by providing insights from search technology perspectives
Oversee the development and optimization of search algorithms and technologies to improve search relevance and performance
Coordinate with fellow Engineering Managers and Project Managers to manage inter-team dependencies and ensure the on-time delivery of software
Partner with Cloud Platform & Site Reliability Engineering to ensure we have a trusted and reliable platform for our Buyer Engagement systems
Foster a culture of continuous learning, growth, and collaboration, supporting team members in professional development and innovation
What you will bring:
8 or more years of software development experience on large-scale, high-volume, technical systems, with at least 5 years in a people management
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in computer science, information technology or a related field
Proven success designing, building, and maintaining large-scale search systems
Experience with search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch), algorithms, and data structures
Proven success providing project management artifacts in an agile environment
Excellent communication skills with engineers and non-engineers alike
Strong ability to coach engineers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers (including managing remote engineers)
Proven success in leading, managing, and hiring teams of talented engineers
