The Global Environment & Sustainability Risk and Compliance Associate Director will be responsible for environmental and sustainability compliance and risk management. This role involves assessing compliance requirements and risks from both financial and impact perspectives, while developing capabilities, processes, and controls within North America. This role will plan and execute environmental and sustainability audits and risk management processes, collaborating with Sustainability, Supply Chain, Legal, R&D, Marketing and Finance leadership to drive compliance improvements and implement risk reduction programs and initiatives. The Global Environment & Sustainability Risk and Compliance Associate Director will be managing a global team of Risk & Compliance Leaders to ensure pragmatic alignment of global efforts in achieving objectives.

Location of role:

US – Remote, US – Dallas (TX) or US – Roswell (GA) preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Sustainability, Supply Chain, Legal, R&D, Marketing and Finance teams, works to ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability-related policies, laws, regulations, and relevant standards, with a focus on Kimberly-Clark’s assets, operations, products, materials and brands.
  • Stay abreast of relevant environmental and sustainability policy and regulatory developments; develops and aligns appropriate processes and controls to ensure compliance and effectively manage environmental and sustainability-related risks. Communicates developments to key stakeholders and drives continuous improvement in processes/controls as needed.
  • Develops and deploys the environmental and sustainability risk assessment processes, building capabilities and prioritizing work based on severity and likelihood. Partner with Sustainability and Enterprise Risk Management to apply sustainability risk and materiality assessments at the regional level in support of sustainability strategy/planning and to enable legally required environmental and sustainability-related reporting requirements.
  • Devise and deploy management controls validation processes and activities against compliance needs and risks; reports on gaps and drives corrective/preventative actions.
  • Leads and executes the environmental and sustainability auditing process in the region in collaboration with Health & Safety; develops and issues audit reports. Communicates and escalates gaps to key stakeholders.
  • Recommend, support and monitor closure of environmental and sustainability compliance/conformance gaps and provides status updates to key stakeholders. Leverages digital systems/platforms to review and synthesize audit data/metrics; conduct trend analysis and recommend systemic improvements.
  • Leverage IMF, capital planning/governance, claims review/validation and other business processes to verify compliance early in the innovation cycle and as part of project execution. Communicates and escalates concerns and recommendations to key stakeholders and leadership accordingly.
  • Review, validate and approve all product-related sustainability claims within the region and drives consistency and process improvements accordingly.
  • Lead a team of individual contributors to support efforts in environmental and sustainability risk and compliance execution to ensure pragmatic alignment. Lead a global team of Regional Sustainability Risk and Compliance Leaders.
  • Builds requisite skills, capabilities, and capacity of operations globally.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, environmental economics or related field specific to roles in environmental and sustainability compliance or risk management in complex manufacturing operations.
  • 10 plus years of experience working in related roles requiring environmental and sustainability regulatory, risk management, audits and controls.
  • Working knowledge of applicable, pending, and evolving environmental and sustainability requirements in relevant jurisdictions (international, national, local).
  • 3 plus years of demonstrated work experience in conducting environmental and sustainability risk assessment and management, including financial related effects, in areas of climate, energy, nature and products.
  • 3 plus years of demonstrated work experience developing controls to ensure compliance and conducting and managing environmental and sustainability audits.
  • Experience working in complex manufacturing environments requiring high levels of administrative and engineering controls to effectively manage risk and ensure compliance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex legal or internal requirements to all levels, in a highly matrixed organization, providing guidance to leaders in Supply Chain and collaborating on these topics with other relevant business functions (e.g. Risk Management, Legal, Research & Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Government Relations and Compliance & Ethics).
  • 3 plus years of demonstrated work experience in leading a team with global responsibilities, demonstrating the ability to engage and align cross-functionally, along with a proven track record in leadership, staff development, and achieving objectives.
  • Ability to travel to support business needs and audits (up to 40%).

Salary Range: $158,000 to $195,000

Total rewards at Kimberly-Clark include pay and a full benefits package. The anticipated base pay range for this job is listed above, and this position may also be eligible for a target bonus opportunity of a percentage of the base pay. Individual base pay levels will be based on multiple factors including, but are not limited to, location, role, skill set, and level of experience.
