Job description

Suncorp is looking for a talented Senior Data Engineer to join our Insurance & Enterprise Technology (IET) team and lead the development of automated data pipelines, integrating, transforming, and enriching data from diverse sources to deliver actionable insights and value to business stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will:

  • Develop data pipelines, engineering patterns, and end-to-end data solutions
  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable data applications
  • Design, implement, and optimise data models using DBT and Databricks
  • Design and implement scalable Data Engineering patterns to load data into Datavault 2.0 and Kimball-modelled tables utilizing DBT.
  • Maintain and enhance existing data engineering patterns and frameworks, leveraging Python and DBT macros.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams to deliver innovative data solutions
  • Lead and mentor junior team members to uplift technical capabilities
  • Embed best practices in data governance, security, and DevOps

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum 5 years in data engineering roles, preferably within large organisations
  • Proficiency in Databricks, Python, Pyspark, AWS Redshift and data transformation tools like DBT
  • Experience with data modelling methodologies, specifically Data Vault 2.0 and Kimball, with the ability to work comfortably within conceptual, logical, and physical data models
  • Fivetran experience desirable
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience. Certifications in DBT and Databricks are highly regarded
