Position Summary:
The Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for supporting the IT needs of the company, as they relate to cloud operations. This position will manage end-to-end AWS cloud infrastructure. The successful candidate will support all infrastructure (including computer, network, storage, and security) and automation requests/incidents. Create and manage repositories for reusable assets/artifacts. Create, maintain and manage the required environments to ensure seamless cloud application development, integration, and service delivery. The Senior Cloud Engineer should be quick to grasp new concepts, thoroughly explore the depths of an issue, and be persistent in understanding the root cause of issues. This role requires strong interpersonal skills due to continual interaction with managers and users with varying technical backgrounds in a fast-paced work environment.
The essential duties for the job:
- Participate in system design planning, review, and implementation to create enterprise solutions built on AWS.
- Optimize cloud infrastructure including ongoing configuration of related automation, notifications, monitoring and reporting capabilities.
- Recommend modifications to systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance for delivering application and infrastructure in the cloud.
- Responsible for participating in IT change management and asset management processes.
- Maintain documented procedures for Infrastructure.
- Collaborate with team members, developers and software vendors to design, implement, and test systems.
- Participate in on call rotation - requires occasional work during non-business hours and on weekends.
- Accountability on the use of services, handling of sensitive data, and resolving incidents and requests in compliance with FFIEC regulations.
- Create and update systems documentation, performing systems assessments and reporting results.
- Contribute to research and evaluation and build out of new enterprise technologies
- Stay current with advances in technologies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience needed to succeed in the position:
The successful candidate will possess business operations experience and skills, leadership expertise, analytical and critical thinking skills, and attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a cloud engineer
- Comprehensive experience with AWS services including a solid understanding of S3, CloudFront, EBS, EC2, ECS, EKS, ELB/ALB, IAM, VPC, RDS, CloudTrail, ElastiCache, OpenSearch and CloudWatch, KMS, Secrets Manager, Route53.
- Comprehensive experience with CI/CD best practices
- Comprehensive experience with Kubernetes and application containerization and scaling technologies
- Comprehensive experience with Terraform, to setup automated infrastructure resources and application clusters.
- Experience with Service Mesh like Istio, Linkerd preferred
- Experience with Kafka or other streaming technologies preferred
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals and network requirements for a hybrid cloud environment.
- Experience working within Agile software development methodology.
- Experience with Linux and Windows server operating systems.
- Ability to generate and maintain technical documentation is required.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, flexibility in concepts and action, able to handle aggressive mission critical deadlines.
- Technical certification in AWS, Microsoft etc. preferred.

Work Environment

- Must be physically capable to stoop, bend, lift up to 20 lbs to place technology supplies and computers and related equipment onto racks, desks, counters and into cabinets and onto storage shelves, etc.

- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period. Occasional stooping or kneeling may be necessary.
