The Department of Biology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Remote) Postdoctoral Research Associate.
About The Opportunity
We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to help further the aims of the PsiNet Research Coordination Network (psinetrcn.github.io). This position will entail: 1) Advancing the field of plant eco-physiology through implementation of new techniques to monitor plant water status at high frequencies, 2) Conducting and coordinating global syntheses of data submitted to PsiNet to enhance our understanding of how plant health will respond to a changing world, and 3) Building, expanding, and sustaining the networks of people and data facilitated by PsiNet.

What You'll Do
- Collect data on plant physiology/hydraulics using classical methods, plus new techniques for monitoring plant growth and water potential at high frequencies.
- Conduct data synthesis activities on data submitted through the PsiNet RCN.
- Provide administrative and organizational support for the PsiNet RCN.
- Conduct data analysis on collected data.
- Write manuscripts.
- Present research at conferences/workshops and participating in outreach activities.
- A PhD in environmental sciences, geosciences, hydrology, ecology, or a similar field is required for qualify for this position.
- 0-6 months experience in related research experience.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience installing, cleaning, and analyzing data from meteorological sensors, stem psychrometers, FloraPulse sensors, GNSS water potential techniques, and/or other plant physiological measurements.
- Skills in large dataset analysis.
- Demonstrated training and publication in the fields of plant physiology, ecology, and/or hydrology.
Requirements
Physical Demands & Physical Coordination
- Perform 4 to 8-hour days of mildly intensive field work walking to field sites, carrying 30 lbs of equipment, installing/calibrating sensors, and downloading data.
