Job description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Underwriting, the Bilingual Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and approving mortgage insurance applications.

Responsibilities

Underwrite and approve applications for residential mortgage insurance according to Sagen guidelines and policies.
Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service.
Manage underwriting/service process for key lender accounts.
Maintain up to date knowledge of Sagen policies and products.
Provide underwriting and credit expertise for customers, and field staff.
Handle customer service inquiries, develop strong customer relationships and promote the company's products.
Assist in regional/company/quality projects.
Work effectively in a team setting to accomplish goals and complete tasks.

Skills And Qualifications

Bilingual in English and French.
Minimum of 4 years progressive experience in mortgage loan underwriting.
In-depth knowledge of credit and mortgage loan underwriting practices.
Knowledge of the risk analysis approach and the residential appraisal process (ability to understand and interpret appraisal reports).
Strong math skills and the ability to underwrite self-employed borrowers through analysis of tax returns.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong customer service orientation and negotiation/selling skills.
Must be a self-starter and results oriented.
Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment and to perform well in a high volume, high intensity environment.
Ability to make decisions under pressure while adhering to underwriting guidelines.
Ability to work shifts within extended hours of operation.
