Description

The Center on Gender Equity and Health (GEH) conducts cutting-edge global public health research, medical and academic training, and evidence-based interventions to address critical issues such as gender inequities, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health challenges (including adolescent and unintended pregnancy, family planning, HIV/STIs, and healthy birth spacing). With ongoing projects in South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and the United States, GEH is committed to advancing gender equity and improving health outcomes worldwide.

UC San Diego's Temporary Employment Services is seeking a highly skilled and creative Graphic Designer to join our team. In this part-time, fully remote, and temporary position, you will play a key role in producing engaging visual content that communicates complex research findings, supports policy briefs, and amplifies outreach efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your design expertise to impactful work in global public health.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Production of Visual Content

  • Create visually compelling presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, adhering to institutional templates and branding guidelines.
  • Design and lay out reports and publications in Microsoft Word, including research papers, policy briefs, and evaluation reports.
  • Develop infographics and data visualizations to communicate complex research data and health information in a clear, accessible, and visually appealing way, leveraging professional design software and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Design social media graphics for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to showcase project milestones, research findings, and key health messages.

Collaboration and Project Management

  • Work closely with project leads, researchers, and communications teams to understand content needs and ensure effective visual representation.
  • Revise and finalize designs based on feedback from stakeholders, maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Ensure consistency in design across all deliverables by adhering to institutional branding guidelines.
  • Manage projects within design specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.

Tools and Software Proficiency

  • Utilize professional design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), QuarkXPress, and other relevant programs.* Work effectively with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to draft and refine visual materials.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support other design tasks as needed, such as creating flyers, newsletters, event banners, and web assets.

  • Anticipated duration: 9 months
  • Compensation: $58.00 - $75.00 / hour
  • Location: fully remote work arrangement available.
  • Work schedule: 10 hours per week on flexible schedule. May work up to 20 hours / week as needed. Ideally, working hours will overlap with a Mon - Fri 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (PST) window.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience working as a graphic designer, preferably in the global development sector, with a portfolio showcasing previous work.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Canva.
  • Experience in creating infographics and data visualizations (using tools like Tableau, Excel, or Power BI a plus).
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible, and visually compelling designs optimized for print and digital formats.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback and revise designs quickly to meet project needs.
  • Excellence in maximizing Microsoft Office for design and layout and packaging interactive PDF files.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $85,400 - $156,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $40.90 - $75.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
