Job Title: Financial Controller

We seek an experienced Financial Controller who will play a key role in maintaining the organisation's financial health by driving robust financial management, control, and reporting processes.
The Role
The Financial Controller will manage all financial control, reporting, transactional processing, and compliance aspects. This includes overseeing finance operations in the UK and managing financial processes at the subsidiary in India, which involves outsourced components. The role includes line management responsibility for three key areas: Credit Control, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable Operations in India. As such, strong experience in line management and team development is critical.
Working closely with the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will lead balance sheet management, working capital optimisation, payroll, and ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and internal financial policies, including audit processes.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACMA, ACCA, CIPFA) with significant post-qualification experience.
- Strong experience in line management, including leading and developing staff.
- Proven experience in balance sheet management, working capital optimisation, and reconciliations.
- Demonstrable experience managing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit Control, and payroll functions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HMRC regulations, including VAT, corporation tax, PAYE, NI, and pensions.
- Strong understanding of charity financial reporting requirements (Charity SORP, FRS 102).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with financial systems.
Desirable
- Experience using FinancialForce (Certinia), Sage, or similar accounting systems.
- Familiarity with Salesforce CRM.
- Knowledge of Indian accounting and tax regulations.
- Experience with financial system upgrades or implementations.
- Knowledge of financial issues affecting medium-sized charities.
