Cincinnati Re seeks an experienced catastrophe modeler to join a growing team to support our reinsurance operations, including property (cat occurrence, aggregate, per risk), specialty (terrorism, cyber, marine) and casualty (workers’ compensation, clash) lines. Responsibilities include utilizing catastrophe models to evaluate reinsurance submissions and analyze the company’s overall aggregate catastrophe exposure. Ultimate title commensurate with experience.


Salary: The pay range for this position is $ $95k to $155k annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.


Be Ready To:

  • execute upon all aspects of catastrophe modeling including data preparation and validation, account and portfolio analysis, results reporting, data visualization and mapping, event response, and portfolio rollup
  • help define, develop, and test tools that improve the speed and accuracy of the modeling process and are sustainable for a growing team and company
  • work with reinsurance underwriters to evaluate submissions and provide an understanding of loss drivers
  • contribute to special research projects related to catastrophe risk management and catastrophe model validation


Location:

  • Cincinnati Re operates from our Headquarters location in Fairfield, Ohio, but the location of this position is flexible depending upon the candidate.
  • travel may be required.
  • many departments at our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio, offer hybrid work options, empowering associates to work from home several days a week. Depending on your role and responsibilities, hybrid options may be available.


Be Equipped With:

  • three or more years of experience using AIR Touchstone or RMS RiskLink software in an insurance or reinsurance setting; experience modeling both U.S. and non-U.S exposures is preferred. Experience utilizing industry cyber or terrorism models is a plus
  • thorough knowledge of catastrophe models -- how they work, impact of data elements on loss results, how to isolate model and exposure change, insurance and reinsurance terms and application within the models, and relevant industry and vendor topics
  • a strong quantitative and catastrophe modeling background is required. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience as a self-starter and problem solver, who can work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • experienced user of Excel and SQL; programming (Python, R, VBA) or GIS experience is a plus
  • knowledge of property insurance and risk management: impact of risk characteristics on pricing and underwriting; property valuation; policy structuring; risk differentiators; insurance terminology and relevant industry and catastrophe topics
  • knowledge of reinsurance types and terms, such as catastrophe excess of loss, property per risk, quota share, etc
  • exemplary analytical and problem-solving skills
  • excellent verbal and written skills for communicating with both internal and external business partners
  • initiative and the ability to perform well with limited oversight
