Job description

Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a Technical Expert - Infrastructure and Security to join our team, focusing on managing and enhancing the agency’s network, server, and security infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of technical expertise in security patching, vulnerability remediation, and audit compliance, as well as the ability to document workflows and procedures to optimize operations. This position is 100% remote but requires residency in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee network and security appliances, telephony systems, Active Directory Group Policy, security patching, and anti-virus systems.
  • Monitor system performance, ensuring optimal operation and providing relevant metrics to leadership.
  • Define and document infrastructure architecture, security configurations, and connectivity.
  • Lead feasibility studies and cost/benefit analyses for infrastructure projects.

Security and Compliance:

  • Drive security and vulnerability remediation initiatives.
  • Ensure adequate security logging and adherence to NIST standards and CIS top 18 controls for audit compliance.
  • Manage and optimize remote office connections to state systems and the internet.

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide expert input on IT processes, best practices, change control, and operational security.
  • Establish policies that integrate business needs with IT systems.
  • Guide technical solutions, upgrades, and infrastructure changes.
  • Develop and enforce standards for vendor-hosted infrastructure, ensuring integration of diverse systems and platforms.

Process Improvement:

  • Develop detailed documentation and procedures to optimize workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Identify and delegate tasks to appropriate teams, ensuring proper access roles and rights.
  • Analyze and document the current infrastructure environment, projecting future needs and innovations.

Telephony:

  • Maintain existing telephony functionality while driving innovation in solutions.

Qualifications:

Top Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in network, server, and security infrastructure (CrowdStrike, Tenable, ZScaler) – 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience with security patching, vulnerability remediation, and audit compliance (NIST standards, CIS top 18 controls).
  • Proven ability to develop and document procedures and workflows – 1+ year of experience.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and build strong relationships.
