Westcliff University seeks a dedicated and dynamic Writing Center Specialist to join our fully online Writing Center

team. The ideal candidate will provide academic writing support to students at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral

levels. Writing Center Specialists act as both tutors and guides, offering asynchronous and synchronous feedback to

help students develop their writing skills and achieve self-sufficiency. This fully remote role offers flexible hours and

requires expertise in the writing process, grammar, academic research strategies, formal academic English, and APA

7th edition formatting.


Job Duties:

Dissertation Support: Provide consultation services to students in the dissertation process, as well as doctoral and

master’s-level assignments.

? Overflow Assistance: Provide overflow support to the Writing Center as needed, providing personalized guidance

to students on a wide range of assignments including, but not limited to, essays, research papers, and dissertations.

? Timely Delivery: Ensure feedback is delivered promptly, meeting established deadlines and service standards.

? Collaboration: Maintain regular communication with the Writing Center leadership to align with best practices and

improve student outcomes.

? Workshop Facilitation: Facilitate workshops and writing bootcamps, including curation and delivery of related

materials, virtually as needed.

? Resource Development: Create and curate content for dissertation support resources, such as handouts, explanations, and tutorials.

? Journal Support: Provide copyediting services for the University’s research journal prior to publication.

? Team Collaboration: Attend Writing Center team meetings and participate in professional development activities.

? Technology Proficiency: Effectively use relevant software and platforms, including Learning Management

Systems (Moodle), video conferencing tools (Zoom), and document editing tools (Microsoft Word, Google

Workspace).

? Cultural Sensitivity: Adapt teaching methods to support second-language learners and students from diverse

linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

? Project Contributions: Assist in Writing Center projects, such as piloting new programs or developing advanced

resources.

? Assessment and Reporting: Track and report student progress and engagement to Writing Center leadership.

? Professional Certifications: Apply knowledge from certifications (e.g., TESOL or advanced academic editing) as

applicable.

? Handles other projects and tasks as needed

Requirements

? Doctorate degree from an accredited institution.

? Minimum of three years of professional proofreading or graduate-level writing center experience.

? Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.

? Meticulous attention to detail and strong editing skills.

? Effective interpersonal skills to guide students in making meaningful improvements.

? Proven ability to teach, edit, and provide constructive feedback on APA-compliant scholarly documents, including

dissertations, theses, and academic manuscripts.

? Proficiency in using citation management tools (e.g., EndNote, Zotero, or Mendeley) and academic editing tools

(e.g., Grammarly, MS Word Track Changes, and Google).

? Ability to engage and lead students toward success in workshop settings.

? Commitment to empowering students with actionable and supportive feedback.

? Expertise in quantitative research methodologies.

? Demonstrated experience in academic writing, including literature review, research proposals, and data-driven

manuscripts.

? Classroom teaching or instructional experience.

? Experience supporting ESL/EFL learners.

? Curriculum or workshop development experience.
