Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Senior ZScaler Security Engineer is to provide security solutions for our customers. The Senior ZScaler Security Engineer will also be involved in training both internal and external resources. The Senior ZScaler Security Engineer will work to keep the RavenTek lab components operational and ready to be demonstrated to customers. The Engineer will also work with the RavenTek sales teams to provide engineering resources as needed. The performance of this position is key to RavenTek's performance on the IRS/Treasury contract, and therefore RavenTek's mission to support the end customer’s mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage ZIA/ZPA Admin portals.
- Manage Firewall policies.
- Daily configuration and troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot complex connectivity issues involving multiple firewalls, IPS and load balancer, and VPN devices.
- Provide support for internal and external customers in an enterprise environment.
- Troubleshoot a range of IT security and connectivity issues.
- Manage and troubleshoot virtualized load balancers.
- Support other team members in troubleshooting and project efforts.
- Works with remote teams to install, maintain, and troubleshoot security hardware.
- Ensure customers receive top of the line support in a polite and courteous manner.
- Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
- Provide Monthly Status Report (MSR) to the RavenTek Program Manager by the deadline provided. Monitor RavenTek email on a regular basis, at least 3 times per week, and respond accordingly.
- Complete required compliance training as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Critical Skills
- Knowledge of Web filtering, Access, and SSL Decryption policies.
- Knowledge of the following would be considered a plus: Troubleshooting network issues and familiarity with the necessary tools (Ping, Traceroute, MTR, etc.).
- Expert knowledge of protocols such as HTTP, SMTP, FTP, DNS, etc.
- Working knowledge of networking and security products and enterprise network infrastructure.
- Familiar with Network Protocol Analyzers (tcpdump, Wireshark) and network security (SSL/TLS, VPNs, Firewall, IDS/IPS).
- Knowledge of Authentication systems such as LDAP, MS AD, etc.
- Knowledge of VPN technologies such as IPSec and VPN clients.
- Scripting knowledge (SHELL, Python, Perl).
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience or in lieu of 6-8 years of hands-on experience.
- Network/Security Engineering experience, with cyber security experience working as a Support Engineer/Sr. Support Engineer supporting networking or web security products.
- Solid Networking experience (Routing & Switching). The Security engineer will be experienced with routing/switching and must be experienced with TCP/IP and IP subnetting.
- Troubleshoot complex issues involving multiple devices with the devices themselves and connectivity running through them using both GUI and command-line tools.
Certifications, Licenses
- Zscaler certifications: ZIA/ZPA Administrator or Professional preferred.
- ZCDS – Zscaler Certified Delivery Specialist or ZCSS – Zscaler Certified Support Specialist required.
Special Requirements
- Public Trust with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
Work Environment
Employee will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.

Ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and may be required to provide recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee must be able to lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically up to 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
