Advocates for Human Potential (“AHP”) is looking for a General Counsel to add value by providing strategic counsel and advice to achieve AHP’s business objectives. With the support of the CEO and Executive Team, you will ensure that AHP operates within the law at all times, offer counsel on legal and regulatory issues, be an effective guardian of the organization and facilitate business strategy development. The successful candidate will operate as an expert problem solver and driver of creative, complaint business solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert and strategic legal advice to management.
- Set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors.
- Evaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of any decision or course of action.
- Anticipate issues and estimate risks strategically.
- Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks.
- Base your decision-making process on ethics and integrity.
- Create associations of trust and respect with key stakeholders.
- Oversee legal operations across AHP.
- Deal with external parties (regulators, external counsel, politicians, clients).
- Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive performance from team.
- Draft agreements that minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
- Meet legal objectives.
- Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas.
- Keep abreast of legislative changes.
Requirements And Skills
- Proven general counseling experience in business environment.
- Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, litigations, labor law, etc.)
- In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations.
- Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives.
- Well-versed in how business operates with strong financial acumen.
- High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas.
- Excellent judgement and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to “see around the corner”.
- Adept at managing complexities of scaling an organization and adept at change leadership.
- J.D. degree required.
- MA or BSc in Business Administration will be considered an asset.

Salary Range: $190,000 - $225,000
AHP, in an effort to be transparent with applicants about salary and in compliance with various state pay disclosure requirements, publishes the following information which is current as of the date of posting. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the AHP salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be high or low in the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and education. The range listed is just one component of AHP’s total compensation package for employees.
