Job description

LTS is seeking an experienced Chief Dental Officer (CDO) to manage Dental Physicians, Dental Support personnel, and Dental Operations within the Defense Health Agency (DHA). The CDO will provide clinical leadership, strategic guidance, and subject matter expertise to ensure the integration of innovative dental care solutions into readiness programs. This position requires collaboration with DHA leadership, military services, and external stakeholders to optimize access to care and maintain the dental readiness of the force.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, and ensure dental personnel adhere to and follow, all safety standards and healthcare regulations.
  • Define dental service procedures and quality assurance requirements.
  • Provide updates to dental staff on new dental regulations as they are received and ensure adherence with training requirements.
  • Responsible for licensing verification and credential reviews of all Dental Clinical Providers.
  • Develop and implement clinical standards, protocols, and guidelines for tele-dentistry and other remote dental care solutions.
  • Oversee quality assurance and patient safety initiatives to ensure high standards of care.
  • Lead the design and execution of programs to enhance access to dental care through tele-dentistry and mobile dental platforms.
  • Develop strategies to integrate remote dental care capabilities into the broader Military Health System (MHS).
  • Align program initiatives with DHA’s mission, DoD policies, and readiness objectives.
  • Collaborate with military medical and dental leaders to address readiness gaps and ensure effective program implementation.
  • Represent the program in interagency forums, conferences, and working groups related to dental health and readiness.
  • Monitor and assess program performance metrics, recommending improvements based on clinical and operational data.
  • Ensure program compliance with federal, DoD, and DHA policies, including those related to HIPAA and patient privacy.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Licensed and Board Certified or Board-Eligible Dentist plus seven years of dental experience which must include seven years of supervisory and high-level leadership and administrative experience within a clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of military healthcare systems, operational readiness requirements, and DHA policies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Prior military service or experience working within the DoD healthcare system is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with dental health IT systems and tele-dentistry platforms is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting with competing priorities.
