Job description

Remote in the United States

Mercy For Animals aims to end industrial animal agriculture by constructing a just and sustainable food system. We envision a world where animals are respected, protected, and free

As a leading farmed animal advocacy organization, we know that achieving this goal requires a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment—one that welcomes and sparks new perspectives and innovative ideas. If you are passionate about our mission, driven to make a big impact for animals, and eager to be part of a dedicated team, join us!

We currently seek a corporate relations specialist to join our corporate engagement team. In this role you will engage with major food companies, producers, and other food-industry entities to promote the adoption of progressive farmed animal welfare policies and increase accountability and public progress reporting for policy commitments.

You will do invaluable work:

  • Help develop and execute effective strategies for working with the food industry to secure and implement commitments to eliminating cruel supply-chain practices
  • Help develop and execute corporate accountability strategies and projects to ensure that secured animal welfare policies are implemented
  • Identify, research, and propose prospective outreach targets
  • Maintain a portfolio of retailers, restaurants, producers, foodservice providers, and other food-industry entities to engage with on animal welfare
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and consistent outreach materials that comply with internal legal, editorial, and messaging standards
  • Track communications with companies and share updates with supervisor, the corporate engagement team, and coalition members as needed
  • Cultivate positive working relationships with key food-industry stakeholders, including executives at food companies, producers, and associations, and attend in-person meetings as needed
  • Serve as a Mercy For Animals spokesperson at events, including industry gatherings and press conferences, as needed
  • Work with other nonprofit organizations to foster solid relationships and coordination between Mercy For Animals and other corporate engagement professionals
  • Partner with other departments at Mercy For Animals to advance the organization’s strategic objectives

Your qualifications will take our corporate engagement team to the next level:

  • Minimum of one year’s professional experience in corporate relations, campaigning, issue advocacy, communications, sales, or a closely related area
  • Bachelor’s degree in corporate affairs, campaigning, issue advocacy, communications, or a closely related area or equivalent work experience (preferred)
  • Self-motivation, resourcefulness, and exceptional research skills
  • Strong people skills and ability to communicate professionally and persuasively
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and project-management skills
  • Outstanding writing skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of the U.S. food industry and the country’s key farmed animal welfare issues
  • Willingness and ability to travel two to four times per year for meetings, conferences, and retreats
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a professional appearance when interfacing with external stakeholders, such as company executives, industry representatives, and coalition members
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Mercy For Animals
  • Dedication to continued individual and organizational growth in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles

About Your Team Leader

Your team leader, Maha Bazzi, is the campaigns manager for the United States and Canada. Maha started her career as a graphic designer and an educator. After graduating with a master’s degree in animals and public policy from Tufts University in 2019, she transitioned her professional path to working in international policy for animals. She joined Mercy For Animals’ campaigns team in 2020 and firmly believes in the power of public campaigning to drive positive change for animals. Maha is passionate about effective teamwork and fostering strong, positive team dynamics. She values open communication, initiative, ownership, and creative problem-solving. She strongly encourages a healthy work-life balance for herself and team members. Outside work, Maha loves spending time and traveling with her husband and toddler, going on runs, reading thriller novels, eating delicious meals her partner cooks, and petting her two companion cats, Rayna and Reese.

Compensation and Benefits

Earn an annual salary of $60,000–$65,000, depending on qualifications. In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will be able to take part in our benefits package, including no- or low-cost health, vision, and dental insurance; generous paid time off and sick leave; and 401(k) retirement plan, with a dollar-to-dollar employer match of up to 3% of your annual earnings.

Application Details

We consider traditional and nontraditional qualifications and carefully review each application, resume, and cover letter. Feel encouraged to go outside a traditional cover letter and state how you would add to our culture; what we would gain from having you on our team; and how you align with our organizational vision, mission, and values. To ensure fairness in the hiring process, we request that all applicants refrain from submitting materials that are entirely generated by artificial intelligence tools.
