As of October 15, 2024 Loblaw has adopted the following Hybrid working model (a combination of working between the office and remotely). Colleagues will continue working remotely up to 1 day a week, while spending the other 4 days in the office (to be determined by each business unit).

As a Data Science Co-Op, you will play a crucial role in extracting and analyzing complex information, supporting business partners, and contributing to enterprise-wide analytical initiatives. Your work will directly impact our ability to make data-driven decisions, solve business problems, and uncover new opportunities.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform the ad-hoc extraction and analysis of complex information from various databases.
  • Support initiatives to enhance business partner self-sufficiency.
  • Maintain data security and confidentiality for all data sources.
  • Translate business requests into actionable plans, addressing strategic and tactical needs.
  • Utilize SQL to extract, review, and prepare sales and customer behavior data for analysis.
  • Design and build interactive and static data visualizations to provide insights for strategic decisions, using Power BI or Looker.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to enhance forecasting, targeting, and performance measurement, using python and Google Cloud Platform.

What You'll Bring:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Business, or a relevant field.
  • Programming and technical skills in SQL, Python (pandas, numpy, sklearn, xgboost), version control (git).
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills with the ability to derive meaningful interpretations from data.
  • Ability to take initiative, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a team player mentality.
  • In-depth knowledge of predictive modeling and machine learning, deep learning, and familiarity with Generative AI & LLMs.
  • Experience with SQL data extraction and manipulation tools (Python).
  • Ability to apply state of the art Machine Learning algorithms and solutions to derive actionable insights and solve complex business problems.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as GCP, Azure, and AWS is a plus.
  • Interest in retail analytics is preferred.
