Global Media and Communications Consultant/Adviser for our Global Programmes (Defence & Security and Global Health)
Closing date: midnight on the 6th of January 2024. We will review submissions on an ongoing basis and plan to hold meetings with those shortlisted in the weeks commencing 13th & 20th of January 2025.
Time frame: starting end of January, for a period of 6 months (July 2025). We would like a 3 days per week commitment.

Overview of the role:
- To support the work of the TI Defence & Security (TI-DS) and TI Global Health (TI-GH) teams to ensure that communication of their research and messages reaches and influences our target audiences in the most effective ways. This will include campaigns, media outreach and developing compelling content for our campaigns, websites, social media and events.
- To raise the profile of TI-DS and TI-GH as expert voices in their sectors and to raise awareness of the extent and dangers of corruption in both spheres with a variety of key audiences, including global and national policymakers, potential funders and others working in these sectors.
- Contribute to the work of the TI-UK Communications team including contributing to TI-UK’s monthly newsletter, monitoring and evaluating social media, web and media coverage, supporting our Senior Events Coordinator where necessary and supporting with routine communications functions with other members of the communications team.
Note:
The focus of advice and deliverables will be with TI-DS. There may also be advice and deliverables to assist the Global Health team and with the wider communications work of TI-UK.
Point of contact: the Director of International Programmes will be the main point of contact whilst also working alongside the Advocacy, Research, Programmes, and Fundraising colleagues for relevant work, as well as the TI-UK (domestically focused) Communications team.
Deliverables
- Advise and support the TI-DS and TI-GH teams in developing strategic communications approaches to amplify the impact of their research and advocacy, engage key audiences, and create opportunities for securing funding through diverse tools.
- Collaborate with the TI-DS and TI-GH teams to develop and maintain a pipeline of engaging, relevant, and up-to-date content for campaigns, websites, social media, and newsletters.
- Support and advise on specific publication launches and media activities, including writing and editing blogs, producing video clips and infographics, and preparing communications/press kits for use by Transparency International chapters globally.
- Provide expertise in pitching stories and opinion pieces to global media outlets (broadcast, print, and online), including mainstream platforms (e.g., BBC, CNN, Bloomberg) and specialist outlets (e.g., EuroActive, DefenseOne, Stat News) in donor and chapter countries.
- Cultivate and maintain targeted relationships with investigative journalists and media, advising on collaborative opportunities and story ideas linked to our strategic work.
- Guide and support colleagues and other chapters in building effective campaign and communications tools and approaches, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Contribute to internal communications efforts, including newsletters, media round-ups, and updates to the TI-DS/TI-GH websites, social media, and media engagement platforms.
- Collaborate with the Transparency International Secretariat and key chapters to enhance the visibility and influence of TI-DS and TI-GH’s work.
Candidate requirements
We are seeking a skilled writer with experience transforming complex technical information into accessible, compelling content under tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in crafting press releases, blogs, and statements, as well as shaping and curating content for impactful campaigns. Experience managing websites, growing social media channels, and engaging global media outlets is essential, alongside the ability to balance competing priorities in fast-paced environments. Strong relationship-building skills and evidence-based communication expertise are crucial.
Desirable qualities include experience collaborating with investigative journalists, proficiency in video editing, and familiarity with global defence, security, or health issues.
