Job Summary:
The Project Manager is responsible for leading and successfully delivering project initiatives that align with the company's strategic objectives and business plan goals. This role involves managing multiple IT projects simultaneously, ensuring effective planning, execution, and monitoring throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership:
Manage end-to-end delivery of IT projects, including implementation or customization of commercial off-the-shelf insurance software, mobile/web technologies, system integrations, software upgrades, intelligent automation (RPA), and infrastructure improvements.
Oversee three or more projects concurrently, balancing project complexity, duration (typically 6–8 months), and lifecycle phases.
Project Planning & Execution:
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using effort-driven planning and auto-scheduling techniques.
Monitor and reconcile project team timecards, adjusting plans to reflect accurate forecasts.
Proactively manage project financial forecasts, investigating variances and adjusting as needed. Release surplus funds or request additional funding when baseline changes are approved.
Risk and Stakeholder Management:
Identify, manage, and escalate project risks, issues, assumptions, and decisions promptly.
Facilitate the completion and approval of project artifacts, ensuring compliance with governance standards.
Regularly engage with project teams, business sponsors, stakeholders, portfolio managers, and other key stakeholders.
Governance and Reporting:
Create essential project documents, including charters, communication plans, risk management plans, and resource plans.
Ensure compliance with project management methodologies and change management procedures.
Deliver bi-weekly project status reports and maintain consistent communication with stakeholders.
Process Improvement:
Contribute to the maturity and improvement of PMO practices by providing feedback and support.
Champion adherence to project management and governance standards.
Core Competencies and Skills:
Experience and Expertise:
5–7+ years of experience managing IT projects with budgets of $150K+; end-to-end project delivery experience required.
Proficiency in effort-driven planning techniques, preferably using MS Project.
Strong knowledge of financial services or insurance industries, with commercial property and casualty insurance experience preferred.
Proven ability to manage vendors and execute statements of work (SOWs).
Leadership and Communication:
Demonstrated executive presence with the ability to deliver difficult messages calmly and confidently.
Strong customer focus with consultative and collaborative skills.
Excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities, even under pressure.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all organizational levels.
Technical and Financial Acumen:
Experience with project financial management, including forecasting, timekeeping, and invoice reconciliation.
Willingness to develop technical knowledge of systems, data flows, and high-level architecture.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new project management and financial planning tools.
