We are seeking an experienced Legal Automation team member to join the newly-established Innovation Hub within the Legal function to drive the development and deployment of automation solutions tailored to the function. This key role will focus on designing and implementing advanced workflows and tools to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and address complex business challenges within the Legal function. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in automation technologies, a strong understanding of corporate/legal business workflows, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Automation Development & Deployment: Lead the design, development, and deployment of automation workflows to address Legal’s unique use cases.
  • Business Process Optimization: Analyze existing workflows and collaborate with Legal collaborators to identify inefficiencies, prioritize opportunities, and implement solutions that improve productivity and reduce manual effort.
  • Collaborative Development: Work alongside attorneys, Tech@Lilly, and other members of the Legal Innovation Hub to understand key challenges and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Complex and Citizen-Led Automation: Develop scalable, enterprise-grade automations while supporting and enabling citizen-led development efforts within the Legal team.
  • Integration Management: Build integrations across systems, ensuring automation solutions are cohesive, reliable, and compliant with data governance standards.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary resource for deploying automation technologies, mentoring business counterparts, and sharing best practices for sustainable solution development.
  • Metrics and Impact Assessment: Work closely with the Legal PMO to define and track success metrics for automation projects, delivering dashboards and reports to measure efficiency gains and business value.

How You’ll Succeed:

  • Technical Expertise: Leverage a deep understanding of automation and data transformation tools (e.g., UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Alteryx or similar) to design solutions that agree with Legal’s strategic goals.
  • Problem Solving: Use creative thinking, collaboration and understanding of Legal stakeholder needs, and advanced technical skills to solve complex business problems and develop reusable automation components.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner effectively with Legal, IT, and external vendors to ensure automation solutions meet both technical and business requirements.
  • Agility and Scalability: Build solutions that are secure, scalable, able to support business continuity, and resilient, enabling the Legal department to adapt quickly to evolving business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, with 3+ years of experience in automation development or software engineering.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven experience designing and deploying automation workflows using tools like UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Power Automate, or similar platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, VBA) with the ability to adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Experience analyzing business processes, mapping workflows, and designing automation solutions that deliver measurable results.
  • Experience working in or with corporate legal departments, with an understanding of legal processes and workflows.
  • Proficiency in running automation projects end-to-end, including stakeholder engagement, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Knowledge of process mining, RPA+AI use cases, and other advanced technologies to optimize workflows.
