Mollenhour Gross, LLC is actively recruiting an Assistant Controller to help drive excellence throughout our accounting and financial reporting ecosystem.

About The Role:

Our Assistant Controller’s primary areas of responsibility and activity will be the following:
  • Grow and strengthen our existing culture of compliance, ethical behavior, and good judgment.
  • Execute our consolidated financial reporting;
  • Administer payroll and assist with payroll tax reporting;
  • Perform daily bookkeeping operations at closely-held entities, including journal entries, intercompany accounting, reconciliations, consolidation, and closing of the books;
  • Oversee and manage the payment of AP and the collection of AR; and
  • Assist and support our accounting leadership with various projects, tasks, and responsibilities, as assigned.

  • You are passionate and curious about financial reporting, accounting, and/or audit.
  • You are eager to work alone with numbers, spreadsheets, and financial information for several hours every day, but are happy to collaborate with others on projects, large and small.
  • You are deliberate and methodical, but you have a bias to action.
  • You are comfortable and committed to poke, prod, challenge, and – when necessary – lead difficult conversations and resolve difficult problems.
  • You have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • You have at least some experience with tax accounting and tax reporting.

This is a hybrid role, with flexible work-from-home optionality. We prefer this person to live in our hometown of Knoxville, or at least within close proximity (i.e., an easy day’s drive).  We expect the salary to fall between $100,000-$125,000, depending on experience, skills, and long-term fit.  We do not offer retirement plans or traditional health benefits, instead preferring to pay more salary and let you manage your personal affairs as you wish. 

About The Process:

Our process for evaluating candidates will include a couple up-front assessments.  In the past, some folks have been turned off by that, and that's ok.  We certainly don't want to ask candidates to invest any time that they're not willing to invest.  But historically, we've found that the right "fits" tend to enjoy our process.
