WHAT YOU’LL DO


As the Sustaining Software Engineer you will serve as a key member of the Sustaining Engineering team.  The position requires a skilled technical Engineer responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and an individual who is technically adept, proactive, and comfortable working with a variety of systems, software, and troubleshooting methodologies. You will focuses on maintaining and improving existing products by addressing technical issues, implementing updates, and ensuring product stability. The Sustaining Software Engineer is adept at problem-solving, highly detail-oriented, and skilled in working with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and implement long-term product improvements.  This position is suited for a hands-on engineer who is committed to the long-term success of our products and eager to improve product quality and reliability. This is a hybrid role based in Naperville, Illinois.  Your responsibilities will include:

  • Product Support: Analyze, diagnose, and resolve issues with existing products, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex technical issues by replicating problems, analyzing error logs, and applying effective troubleshooting techniques.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct detailed investigations into product issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product management, quality assurance, and customer support teams to provide feedback and recommendations based on field issues and customer input.
  • Quality Support: Assist the Quality department in troubleshooting, root cause identification, documentation and closure of field complaints.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear, detailed documentation of issue resolution processes and corrective actions.
  • Testing and Validation: Validate product fixes and updates through testing, ensuring quality standards are met before deployment.
  • Knowledge Base Contribution: Create and update technical documents and FAQs to support self-service for common issues
  • Application Administrator: Install, configure and administrate software applications used within the software department.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • Experience: 3+ years in a sustaining engineering, support engineering, or similar role within a technology environment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex hardware and software issues including network issues, software installations, and system performance problems.
  • Proficiency with operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS)
  • Ability to install, configure, and administer business software applications (Mobile Device Management, Cellular technologies).
  • Familiarity with SQL, databases, or basic programming languages is a plus
  • Experience with testing and validation methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving. 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
