Job description

Department Overview:

The Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences is an independent research institute within OHSU that is dedicated to health and safety in the workplace. The Institute receives its base funding from the Oregon Workers’ Compensation Fund and leverages this base funding to secure federal government grants in basic, clinical, and applied research. We perform biomedical/occupational research and innovation for a healthy workforce, aimed at promoting health and reducing disease and disability among workers across the nation, particularly in Oregon.

Function/Duties of Position:

This position will work on a research project under the direction of Anjali Rameshbabu, Ph.D. This research is focused on communal meal breaks, an intervention to increase social connectedness among healthcare janitorial workers. The study will identify current practices and implementation needs, and include a test of feasibility. The research assistant will administer surveys to research participants, conduct interviews with participants and collect data, and assist with data analysis. This is a temporary, part-time (~12.5 hours per week) position that is funded through August 31, 2025.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field OR
  • Associate’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR
  • 4 years of relevant experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of training & experience
  • Experience working with research participants
  • Experience with survey data collection
  • Experience with qualitative data collection (e.g., focus groups, interviews)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge and application of gathering, compiling, and reporting research information
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, writing and proof-reading skills
  • Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with issues of a sensitive nature and to maintain research integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to gather, compile, analyze and maintain, in a range of formats, information from a variety of sources, including research publications, web sources, and internal and external contacts
  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and meet research timelines in a timely and effective manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an occupational health or I/O psychology field
  • 3 or more years’ experience working in occupational health
  • 3 or more years’ experience conducting research activities such as qualitative & quantitative data collection, data analysis, data management, and study coordination/research project management
  • 3 or more years’ experience conducting interviews and focus groups
  • Knowledge of qualitative data analysis software, e.g., ATLAS.ti
  • Knowledge of SPSS or other quantitative data analysis
  • Experience with design tools such as Canva and PowerPoint
