At Torrens University Australia, making a difference is in our DNA. As a Certified B Corporation, we belong to a global community of future-focused companies using business as a force for good. We believe in the transformative power of education to change lives, families, communities – and the world. That’s why we’re on a mission to increase access to higher education, so learners from all walks of life can chase their dreams.

Just like our students, our employees are a diverse group who want to make an impact. When you join us, we give you the freedom to be bold, creative, and courageous – with flexible working arrangements that allow you to bring your best. We’ve built a culture that celebrates community, collaboration, and innovation, where people love what they do.

What’s the job?

Step into a pivotal role as a Senior Cloud Engineer, where you will help manage and optimise our dynamic cloud infrastructure as we transition from AWS to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In this role, you’ll leverage your existing cloud expertise to drive automation, enhance security, and ensure smooth integration between our on-premise systems and cloud solutions. As we transition from AWS to GCP, your experience in both platforms will play a key part in our evolving cloud strategy. We offer strong support for upskilling, ensuring you’ll be equipped to work seamlessly across both environments.

Day-to-day accountabilities:

You’ll take charge of optimising and securing our cloud services with a particular focus on GCP. Your role will involve automating processes, monitoring performance, and integrating on premise technology with our GCP solutions.

  • Lead the optimisation, automation, and security of cloud services, with a key focus on GCP.

  • Drive the migration and management of workloads and services from AWS to GCP.

  • Automate infrastructure management using tools like Terraform and Ansible.

  • Monitor cloud performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the stability of the environment.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate on-premise technology with cloud-based solutions.

  • Stay at the forefront of emerging cloud technologies and continuously innovate to enhance our cloud infrastructure.

Who you are

Extensive experience with GCP technologies is required, and familiarity with AWS is essential.

    • Cross-Platform Flexibility: We are actively migrating from AWS to GCP, so a willingness and enthusiasm to upskill across platforms is a must. Our team will provide the training and resources needed for you to succeed in both environments.

    • Automation Skills: Strong experience with automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible, and proficiency in Git for version control.

    • Infrastructure Knowledge: A deep understanding of Linux systems (SSH, shell scripting) and performance monitoring tools.

    • Problem Solving: Proven ability to analyse complex issues, design creative solutions, and proactively address cloud infrastructure challenges.

    • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We're transitioning from AWS, so experience with the following AWS services is highly beneficial:

    • EC2, Lambda, and Elastic Load Balancing (ALB + NLB)

    • RDS (MySQL, PostgreSQL), S3, EFS, and CloudFront (+ Functions)

    • VPC, CloudWatch, and Code Pipeline
