Job description

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

As a Financial Crimes Compliance EDD Associate, you will be responsible for performing enhanced due diligence for new and existing high risk customer accounts while ensuring that Coinbase remains the most trusted exchange. In this role you will be participating in client calls acting as a point of escalation for compliance related questions from the client and support teams. This role falls within the Financial Crimes Compliance Services, on Coinbase’s Trust & Risk team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Performing enhanced due diligence for escalations for existing high risk Retail customer accounts
  • Acting in an advisory capacity and as a point of escalation for compliance related questions from the client and support teams
  • Assisting in the ongoing remediation of existing accounts to ensure continued compliance with Know Your Customer  requirements.
  • Proactively assisting with small and large scale Compliance projects as required
  • Assisting with writing, updating and maintaining EDD policies & procedures
  • Collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to operationalize and implement new process and procedure updates
  • Participating in calls with clients relating to onboarding and enhanced due diligence requirements
  • Working with Internal Audit and Compliance Monitoring & Testing teams to ensure controls and procedures are being adhered to

What we look for in you:

  • Working knowledge of AML laws, regulations, and guidelines (e.g., BSA, 5MLD, etc...).
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a compliance or investigations role within the financial services or fintech industries.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with G Suite applications, Excel, Word.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the evolving needs of a high-growth and fast paced organization.
  • Organized with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Motivated by Coinbase’s mission and values.

Nice to haves:

  • Anti-Money Laundering Specialist Certification.
  • Knowledge of SQL and Looker experience is a plus.
  • Specific experience with cryptocurrency products as a user and/or experience working in the digital currency industry.
