(100% Remote) Tax Supervisor

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Supervisor with a strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, compliance, and tax coordination. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of tax compliance and strategic financial oversight, and have proficiency in accounting software, fixed asset management, and the ability to collaborate with CPA firms. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential as the role involves managing tax-related communications with external clients and industry partners.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee high volume tax return preparation and delivery (600+ per year), manage quarterly tax payments, respond to agency notifications, and develop internal tax policies.
  • Prepare federal, state, and local business tax returns (1120, 1120S, etc.) and individual tax returns (1040, 1041) with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Prepare payroll for clients on a weekly, bi-weekly, or other scheduled basis.
  • Provide strategic tax calculations and advice to individuals and businesses to support financial decision-making.
  • Conduct research on domestic taxation matters and provide well-documented advice.
  • Ensure adherence to all tax reporting and payment regulations, including business client local sales tax and business property tax returns and filings.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide recommendations for business growth.
  • Leverage tax software programs for efficient collaboration and data management.
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients and prospects.
  • File required tax documents accurately and timely.
  • Oversee and train mid-level staff, including 2 full-time and 1 part-time CPAs.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in federal, state, and local tax regulations, compliance, and tax coordination.
  • Past supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation software (Thomson Reuters, Intuit Pro Series).
  • Advanced skills in Google Suite and Excel.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as Thomson Reuters and QuickBooks Online.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and regulations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is highly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with individual and business federal and state tax forms and e-filing.
  • Knowledge of Construction Accounting and Tax is a plus.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote position with normal business hours (Monday to Friday) and flexibility. You will have the opportunity to work for a small, growing CPA firm that has recently acquired another firm in Richmond, VA and plans to continue expanding. The firm offers the ability to develop within the organization and potentially grow into Partner status.
