Summary

The Software Engineer is responsible for Splunk Cloud and Splunk Enterprise administration and development and serves as the company's main technical SME for Splunk. Supports and leads initiatives including multiple features and applications involving highly integrated design and architecture. 

Note: This role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to our Indianapolis HQ or conference/training locations.

Responsibilities            

  • Contributes to a cross functional team leading Splunk administration and development
  • Improves workflows with automation (especially scripting, Python, Puppet, and/or Azure DevOps Pipelines)
  • Onboarding of new custom data sources, parsing and extracting relevant data
  • Manages environments and deployments
  • Documents functionality, data sources, and workflows
  • Creates alerts, reports, and dashboards
  • Proactively identifies areas of improvement and advocatese for software development best practices
  • Participates in team agile events and collaborate with team to ensure timely delivery of work items
  • Promptly tracks and resolves incidents
  • Leads meetings with partners with stakeholders and customers to gain alignment and understanding.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with multiple programming languages or frameworks
  • Experience with multiple database technologies and querying languages
  • Experience with unit testing
  • Comfortable with Red Hat (RHEL) or other Linux OS, command line, and reading/writing bash scripts
  • Comfortable with GitHub or other Git-based version control system
  • Understanding of code development, testing and other standard SDLC concepts (Python or other programming language)
  • Experience with Agile development practices
  • Comfortable with JSON, regular expressions (RegEx), and XML
  • Comfortable with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Intermediate understanding of security, networking, and REST API principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization

Other helpful skills/experience:

  • Experience installing, configuring, and upgrading Splunk Enterprise instances
  • Experience with Splunk development (SPL, defining custom sourcetypes, creating interactive Simple XML dashboards, etc.)
  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin or Splunk Cloud Certified Admin certification
  • Experience with Splunk sourcetype configuration and regular expressions to onboard data sources in unconventional formats
  • Experience with Splunk Cloud
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Experience with Puppet or other configuration management solution
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD concepts
  • Experience with secrets management (e.g. Azure Key Vault)
  • Experience in the health care industry
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or similar experience
