Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2025 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks.

Be part of a growing Data Analytics team at Symetra! This team acts as an internal consulting group to all business units in Symetra including Life Insurance, Retirement, and Benefits. Our data analytics interns work on a variety of projects in areas such as data analysis and visualization, analytics engineering, and data science.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, test, and document data models using SQL and dbt
  • Turn insights into action and value using data, business intelligence, and predictive analytics
  • Document, organize, and communicate thoughts and ideas effectively
  • Collaborate with teammates and partner with business units on projects
  • Engage in Symetra Data Analytics community and support creating Data Analytics best practices

Your Education, Experience And Skills

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a 4-year college degree, or advanced program in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or another quantitative field
  • Eager to learn about insurance products and industry
  • Good understanding of relational data structures, data warehouse concepts and ETL
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Knowledgeable in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or R
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices such as version control (git), testing, and documentation
  • Ability to independently research relevant topics, enlighten the team based on findings
  • Ability to determine when to use a simple analytic solution and when to use advanced analytical solutions
