What You'll Do
Avalara is looking for a
Senior SDET to work on our VAT Platform suite of products and services. We are growing and evolving our product and looking for motivated people to join us on this journey.
We build software with five nines of reliability. Software which is part of a sales checkout process so it's got to be fast and accurate. That requires systems with massive scale, redundancy and functional excellence. It also requires top-notch APIs and a SOA design for maintainability and extensibility. You will be responsible for functional, performance, integration, reliability and subsequent automation testing to ensure world class quality of Avalara products. You will be the voice of the customer within the organization, demanding zero defects, five nines of reliability and ease of use. You will also serve as a promoter for software quality and QA best practices. You will report to Senior Engineering Manager.
- Be an important participant in creating a Quality First culture. Promote Shift-Left testing
- Participate in continuous testing activity throughout Agile development iterations to ensure zero defects
- Develop automated tests - Functional, Regression, Smoke and Load/Performance tests
- Participate in iteration planning, contributing to required test tasks, process, and associated effort for the selected user stories
- Improve of CI/CD processes, including automated test development and strategy
- Manage test runs and provide clear reporting of test results and metrics
- Mentor others on best practices for test automation, performance testing, CI/CD and QA processes
- Participate in QA collaborations across the wider organization and help propagate industry best practices in QA
What You'll Need to be Successful
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
- Experience with test methodologies and software engineering throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle
- Excellent QA skills: planning, exploratory testing, defect reporting, troubleshooting and debugging
- Experience with object-oriented design and common design patterns
- Knowledge of .NET or Java
- Knowledge of DevOps (AWS, CICD, TF, K8)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server/any other RDBMS
Experience
- 4+ years experience in software testing or 3+ years experience with a master's level degree
- Understanding of application security concepts
- Experience working within dispersed non co-located teams
- Experience in Agile methodologies and processes
- Experience working with JIRA
- Experience having worked with and built or extended frameworks for automated testing
- Experience developing automated tests for web applications
- Experience using multiple tools such as Nightwatch/Selenium WebDriver/BrowserStack, Specflow/Cucumber/Postman and JMeter/Taurus
- Experience in performance, load and reliability engineering
- Experience analysing and troubleshooting complex issues and critical production problems
