Job description

What You'll Do

As a senior experience designer you will lead efforts and work collaboratively in an Agile framework with researchers, strategists, content providers, marketing managers and engineers in the creation and optimization of design for experiences that are easy, meaningful and provide value to our customers.

You have strong analytical skills and can simplify complex data and convey understanding of specialized domains to design for the best experience, and a “Can do” mindset when faced with ambiguous and complex problems. You obsess over user experience and demonstrate the power of strategic design to differentiate experience and increase customer trust. You’re comfortable with rapid iterations informed by data, and delivering recommendations with a comprehensive narrative for the experiences your team is designing for. You’re a strong design leader and you know how to get everyone across the finish-line and drive results.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and direction for the E2E customer experience and design excellence at scale.
  • Drive alignment with cross-discipline partners (e.g., Engineering, Program Managers, and Research) and stakeholders to help shape the experience vision and strategy
  • Identify opportunities for solving customer problems and improve the overall experience.
  • Leading the team in the orchestration and delivering of design for E2E experience across digital touchpoints
  • Identify and establish partnerships with key partners (e.g. Brand, Marketing, Product Design & UX, Engineers, Researchers, and Program Managers on different teams) to define and deliver the Avalara experiences


What You'll Need to be Successful

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience as a UX Designer or similar role.
  • Experience collaborating with Designers, Researchers, Engineers, Content Strategists, and Marketing Managers throughout the design process
  • Designing and prototyping with tools such as Figma, InVision or similar.
  • Experience with a range of qualitative and quantitative user research methodologies.
  • Understanding of front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JS) to help inform design and interaction decisions
  • A portfolio highlighting multiple projects that demonstrate experiences crafting usable digital interfaces.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Team lead- or People Manager experience
  • Experience with Atomic design methodology, and systems for reuse across platforms such as AEM
  • Ability to communicate concepts across different audiences and varying levels of the organization to influence product design strategy
  • Outstanding conceptual, visual and interaction design skills with a track record of designing and shipping successful online experiences
  • Excellent analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.


About The Team

Digital Experience Design (DXD) in the "Digital Experience & Platform" department, specializes in UX Research and Design, focusing on the conception, creation, and production of designs for digital channels and touch points owned by the Marketing team at Avalara. Our team has 23 members across the US and India with Combined +250 years of industry expertise, with relevant experience covering Information Architecture, UX Strategy, UX Research, Experience Design, Design System, Design Production, Experimentation, Digital Production.

The DXD team focuses on leading prospects and customers to conversion through our website and connected channels. Our practice of Evidence-Driven Design empowers marketers to help customers find what they need and effectively use what they find, ultimately driving revenue for our business.

Pay Range Details

The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Colorado $105,900 - $169,500 (annually)

Washington $105,900 - $187,200 (annually)

California $105,900 - $205,000 (annually)

New York $117,000 - $205,000 (annually)

The pay range above is the general base pay range for you in the state listed. Your actual salary/wage may be based on multiple factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, and market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on personal and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and your role.
