Risk Services Manager - Pooling (Remote OR Hybrid in CA)

If you are a risk control professional at a joint powers authority or insurance company or have a background as a safety officer/director within an organization or public agency, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you. This position requires solid presentation skills, possessing the confidence to deliver training sessions to large groups of people. This position is based in Sacramento, California. Remote- based position will be considered. Up to 60% travel within California is required, and some travel requires overnight stays.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To manage the performance and growth of a team of risk services consultants, administer department operations, ensure quality service offerings, and to perform and deliver risk control consulting services to internal and external clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and implements all state and federal laws related to safety and risk management.
- Maintains/expands working knowledge of Cal OSHA regulations and other safety related codes, laws, requirements, and procedures.
- Develops/compiles relevant reports for clients and colleagues (i.e. reports to communicate relative effectiveness of control infrastructure and identify potential trends and service outcomes).
- Assists with regulatory reviews, collection of data and materials regarding risk, exposure controls, or Cal OSHA updates and regulations.
- Creates common service level standards and assesses related performance by direct reports.
- Promotes/markets relevant risk services offerings to retain current clients and develop potential clients.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a risk control service plan based on analysis of risk exposures and loss drivers
- Conduct on-site physical hazard inspections or job hazard studies
- Analyze losses and trends to prepare strategies and programs addressing liability and public safety exposures
- Conduct client on-site safety training in areas such as injury and illness prevention, hazard communication, heat illness prevention, driver safety, etc.
- Perform on-site ergonomic assessment evaluations
- Provide direction and assistance to clients with customizing various safety programs to ensure they are feasible, effectively implemented, and in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Administer project management methods and team supervisory functions
- Write effective and concise communications to apprise clients of new or timely safety information
- Travel within California up to 60% of the time with some travel requiring overnight stays.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers company personnel policies in all areas and follows company staffing standards and training recommendations.
- Interviews, hires and establishes colleague performance development plans; conducts colleague performance discussions.
- Provides support, guidance, leadership and motivation to promote maximum performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Professional licenses as required.
Experience
Eight (8) years of experience in a related field to include two (2) years of management or leadership experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Desired Skills & Knowledge
The desired candidate should have over 10 years of experience in the insurance and risk management or related field with strong technical and consultative skills with experience working with public entities and municipalities. Exceptional writing skills, communication skills, and dedication to customer service are essential, since this position will interact frequently with clients, brokers, or boards of director staff. Professional certifications are desired such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Associate in Risk Management (ARM).

As required by law, Sedgwick provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is $118,000 USD to $145,000 USD annual salary. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other additional voluntary benefits.
