The Role and the Team
As a Software Engineer II in Security Engineering, you will be responsible for developing and architecting key security features in our SaaS platform. This role requires a deep understanding of security protocols and secure software development practices, with a particular emphasis on Java-based backend services.
Security Engineering is a backend team, cross-functional team, owning very critical systems that help our application to run securely. This role is primarily a backend engineering role, with a focus on building performant, scalable, and robust security features and services for our user-facing applications and internal systems. You will solve challenging security technical problems, and own your products and areas end-to-end. The role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of security at Medallia.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain security features across our SaaS platform, with a focus on high performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Lead technical decision-making, helping to define the team’s roadmap, architecture, and priorities.
- Own the development of security-related services and features.
- Collaborate with dependent teams and stakeholders across Medallia to ensure seamless integration of security features into other systems.
- Identify and resolve gaps in tools, processes, and security knowledge, providing mentorship and guidance to team members.
- Develop and enforce best practices in security, including code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration.
- Engage with the latest technologies and security practices, continuously improving our platform's resilience against evolving threats.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience in software development with a focus on security, including backend services in Java.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade, distributed security systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of security protocols and standards such as OAuth, SAML, SSO, TLS, OpenSSL, and Key Management.
- Demonstrated experience with RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and security for cloud platforms (K8s, AWS).
- Demonstrated experience working in agile teams, including distributed teams across multiple time zones.
- English proficiency, both oral and written.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, AWS, and Linux system internals.
- Experience with automated testing, continuous integration, and performance optimization.
- Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills. Bring an ownership mindset with a focus on quality.
