Job description

Weekly outpatient therapy isn't always enough, and a trip to the ER isn't the only answer. Patients and their families rely on Compass Health Center when in crisis – every day, we help people overcome depression, anxiety, suicidality, obsessions/compulsions, trauma, chronic pain, and other obstacles in order for our patients to live freely.

About This Role 

Compass Health Center has an Virtual Adolescent Family Therapist opening focused in our Adolescent Virtual Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs.

Our Family Therapists play a key role in our multi-disciplinary teams and work to ensure synergy across treatment. As a Family Therapist, you’ll conduct family sessions with patients and their loved ones that will aim at providing support, offering education, and promoting collaboration. Compass is proud to be a trailblazer within the future of behavioral health, offering fully virtual PHP/IOP programs to patients across the entire state of Illinois. Our virtual programs meet the needs of modern healthcare, providing flexibility for both patients and clinicians while increasing access to fundamental care. The hours for this role will be 2 days a week 8:30-4:30 pm CT and 3 days a week 11:30-7:30 pm CT.

What you’ll do:

  • Facilitating family sessions via Zoom to a caseload of assigned adolescent patients and their caregivers. 
  • Providing guidance and support to patients and family members to help promote goals and encourage patients progress through the program.
  • Providing direction to families about effective ways of supporting adolescents. Discussion topics and family therapy goals include safety plans, incorporating skill implementation at home, offering psychoeducation, improving communication, creating home contracts.
  • Assisting in supporting families through phone coaching and follow-up calls.
  • Supporting patients in crisis.
  • Coordinating with the treatment team. This involves attending rounds and other program meetings regularly as well as using the electronic systems of communication.
  • Communicating with outside providers conducting family therapy for continuity of care.
  • Collaborating with the treatment team in assessing the patient’s progress and need for higher level of care, stepdown, or discharge.
  • Helping the family to coordinate an effective discharge plan.
  • Providing individual support to patients as needed.
  • Contributing clinical observations and insights during interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Charting progress of patients appropriately in the electronic medical record.
  • Participating in program meetings as needed.
  • Working on projects focused on program improvement and the overall growth and development of Compass.
  • Participating in weekly Virtual Team meetings

  • Provide group therapy, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Who you are:

  • An individual who resides in the state of Illinois
  • Have two years, post master’s family therapy experience (preferred)
  • Have two years, post master’s experience working in higher levels of care (preferred)
  • Hold the following licenses or certification: LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, PsyD, PhD or Associate licensure such as LSW, LPC, AMFT
  • Possess a core skill set of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Possess comfort with technologies (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, etc.)
  • Possess organization skills and ability to manage schedule and tasks
