Purpose of Role:

This position will focus on delivering technical excellence and service to the Isando Foundry and Facility. Responsible for the technical performance to standard of the foundry, as measured by Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost and Morale. Accountable for a broader scope of duties including foundry production equipment, global foundry processes, pattern tooling, product scrap rate and management of technical staff

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety First:
    • Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviours in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

  • Leadership:
    • Provides strong, effective, and collaborative leadership for the technical team. Develops skills and capability of staff including performance management, development, training, and corrective action when appropriate.
    • Responsible for management of technical team and plant material Integrity (melting practice, metallurgy, technical and process)
    • Achieves financial objectives by forecasting needs, preparing a budget, and managing expenditures.
    • Guides problem solving activities, applying, and coaching principles to others; models and trains principles of continuous improvement.

  • Production:
    • Responsible for tactical implementation of technical goals in line with operational goals
    • Induction Furnace management by ensuring energy efficiency and consumption are within standards.
    • Ensure continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes in order to reduce waste, improve quality and increase productivity

  • Technical:
    • Responsible for the design of technical processes that are cost effective, timely, and aligned with company and site strategy.
    • Project manage new part/ process introductions process
    • Digitize and covert manual processes
    • Ensure continuous process optimization and improvements
    • Ensure the scrap rate is below 2,5% of GR value
    • Provide technical support to employees
    • Estimate method and process steps to determine product costs
    • More efficient gating system, to improve yield and save costs
    • Design and develop new pattern equipment
    • Yield savings, continuous cost saving and efficiency improvement
    • Ensure adherence to sand quality standards.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical, mechanical, manufacturing, or related engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years Management experience, and depth and breadth of expertise in plant technical operations
  • Experience: 5 years engineering experience in a production environment
