Job description

Director, UI/UX Design

As our agency's go-to Director of UI/UX Design, you are both a strategic leader and hands-on designer overseeing user experience and (absolutely eye-catching) interface design initiatives across all clients and industries. You possess a deep understanding of user-centered design principles, UX research, and web development, complemented by exceptional leadership skills to mentor a growing UI/UX design team.

You will lead the charge in defining UI/UX processes and delivering compelling and intuitive user experiences that align with our clients’ business goals and brand vision. This role demands close collaboration with cross-functional teams, especially web developers, creative directors, content writers, SEO specialists, marketing strategists, and other designers to ensure seamless execution of web design projects.

Responsibilities

As the Director of UI/UX Design, your responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish our agency’s strategic vision for and approach to UI/UX design, which will support current clients’ business goals and ultimately increase new business wins.
  • Oversee and execute the creation of wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs across web and mobile platforms.
  • Lead and mentor the UI/UX design team, balancing project leadership with hands-on UI design and UX research.
  • Define and document UI/UX processes in partnership with multiple stakeholders, including developers.
  • Oversee user research and usability testing initiatives, analyzing feedback and data to inform strategic design decisions.
  • Lead persona development and journey mapping, and facilitate engaging, productive UI/UX workshops with clients to ensure design solutions align with user needs and client objectives.
  • Collaborate with web development, strategy, and other creative team members to ensure that UI/UX design solutions are innovative, feasible, and aligned with clients’ brand guidelines and marketing goals.
  • Maintain and evolve UI/UX design systems and standards for consistency across all digital touchpoints.
  • Manage multiple projects from conception through delivery, ensuring deadlines and quality expectations are met. This includes reviewing other designers’ and developers’ work in testing environments.
  • Support business development initiatives (as related to UI/UX design) through opportunity spotting, quoting, proposal creation, services refinement, pricing, and packaging.
  • Explore, test, advocate for, and implement no-code/low-code web design platforms (e.g., Webflow), and create replicable processes for our team’s usage of those platforms.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in UI/UX, and advocate for continuous improvement and innovation related to our web design processes, technologies, team development, and more. In addition, stay current with assigned clients’ industries and adjust our UI/UX approach as the competitive landscape, user behaviors/expectations, and other market forces evolve.

What you’ll need

  • UI/UX design samples – Please link to your portfolio in this application, if possible, or be able to present them upon request.
  • 5+ years of UI/UX design experience.
  • Leadership experience is heavily preferred. (This is a supervisor role.)
  • Agency experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with no-code/low-code web design platforms (e.g., Webflow, Framer, etc.) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with industry-standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Familiarity with various CMS platforms, such as Craft, and additional web development workflow tools, such as GitHub.
  • Working understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc. and their implications for UI/UX design.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once while inspiring, mentoring, and leading a team of designers to foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.

What makes TrendyMinds a great place to work

We believe a happy team is a solid team; it’s as simple as that.

  • Fully remote: We believe the best team is one that isn’t limited by proximity to a physical location. Whether on the West Coast or East Coast, we work with team members across all of the U.S. time zones.
  • Collaborative team environment: Your voice is important, and we believe the best projects include contributions from everyone.
  • Great benefits: 30 paid days off and 401(k) matching. What more could you ask? Oh yeah, we cover 100% of health insurance premiums for all team members and 50% for their spouses and dependents.
  • Flexible schedule: Some people are early birds who love collaborating in-person at our offices. Others are night owls who enjoy working from home. We are flexible to accommodate different work styles, times, and locations - within reason and the needs of our clients - of course!
  • New equipment: In order to produce incredible work, we have to have incredible equipment. Sorry if you were hoping for a 7-year-old PC. That’s just not our style.
  • Philanthropy: We like to do our part to help our community. With our philanthropy committee and donation matching system, we offer you the resources you need to make a difference.

Our Values

At TrendyMinds, we aim to hire people who share our values. They are at the center of how we treat each other and our clients, and they act as our guideposts for every decision.

Know the Why behind the What.

We aim to be as honest and transparent as possible with our team and clients. The idea of Why lives at the heart of our LOGIQ process and grounds us with clear reasons for the decisions we make. (You will learn more about our LOGIQ process if you join our team.)

Put relationships first.

We not me. For more than 25 years, we've grown a business built on strong relationships with clients. But we also know that developing trust and a collaborative spirit is equally important to cultivate a healthy team that loves having fun.

Think Ahead and push boundaries.

Our tagline isn’t Think Ahead for nothing. We bring a contagious passion to our craft, always searching for creative ways to challenge ourselves and deliver results, even though things don’t always go according to plan. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, improve, and try again.

Bring your full self.

Show up. Each of us has something unique to contribute. In all that we do, we celebrate diversity and strive to create an equitable, inclusive environment so that everyone feels a sense of belonging.
