As a key member of the CIBC Private Wealth & Wood Gundy leadership team, the Managing Director, National Office plays a role in the realization of strategic plans. In this capacity, the Managing Director will oversee the effective management of all business operations to optimize day-to-day activities and facilitate the execution of significant transformational projects from an operations perspective.  The role has ownership for client solutions, problem resolution, operational escalations and issues management and will identify root causes, provide recommendations for solutions and implement corrective actions, processes and solutions.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Lead the effective management and execution of business initiatives and major transformational projects from an operations perspective for Wood Gundy, Private Banking, CPIC and CIBC Trust.

  • Provide advice and counsel to the Head Wood Gundy / CPIC and the SVP National Office & Wealth Solutions and members of the leadership team on matters relating to new and ongoing operational projects.

  • Provide support for projects after implementation, including problem resolution and enhancements.

  • Drive operational efficiencies and simplification of business model to enhance the client experience.

  • Drive process efficiencies and simplification of front-line service and operational model.

  • Contribute to thought leadership in critical areas through membership on the CIBC Private Wealth and Wood Gundy leadership team.

  • Remain current with respect to the financial marketplace and evolving market dynamics and client needs.

  • Act as proxy for Head of Wood Gungy and/or SVP National Office & Wealth Solutions on matters of risk, operations, sales leadership and compensation.

  • Oversee management and execution of the Wood Gundy Recognition Programs.

  • Develop and implement national talent strategies to support the growth of the business which includes succession and contingency planning and talent development.

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive practice management, across all channels and front-line roles within Private Wealth while ensuring quality of advice standards to support the achievement of strategic goals and objectives.

  • Lead the development of training and development programs that are geared to enhancing the development of Private Wealth channels with a view to a coordinated and consistent client experience that help the client achieve their objectives.

  • Lead initiatives and projects that will improve advice quality and advice management capabilities including intake and on-boarding initiatives and others related to the on-going development of Private Wealth staff. Identify gaps in advice capability and partner with Talent Development groups to develop programs to close gaps.

  • Provide support and oversight of communications to the field, for general items as well for the business head (e.g. quarterly communications).

  • Accountable as the Data Owner for Private Wealth & Wood Gundy functions, supporting how data enables business functions, understanding data quality, supporting data issues.

  • Oversee and lead Executive reporting including Board Level and ExCo presentations as well as business head presentations.

  • Oversee fiscal year planning and year end processes including development of scorecards for each business line and review of Wood Gundy compensation program items.

  • Accountable for the deficiency management of items identified by Governance & Controls, ensuring appropriate solutions are implemented, managed, and reported appropriately by the business.

  • Lead regular updates with key partners, working closely with them on day-to-day business items (e.g. Technology, Operations, Marketing, 3rd party Vendors, Premises etc.).

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong business acumen and 10 years of experience in the wealth management business.

  • In-depth knowledge of retail brokerage business and the ability to converse knowledgeably with Branch Managers, Investment Advisors, Portfolio Managers and other key contacts about operational matters and other pertinent topics.

  • Proven ability to identify operational issues and implement successful solutions. 

  • Proven ability to effectively manage the implementation of transformational change and to increase employee motivation during a period of transition.

  • Strong leadership and relationship management skills.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills necessary to gain commitment and support on transformational change initiatives.

  • Exceptional problem solving skills to creatively develop unique approaches and solutions that are necessary to address complex problems.

  • Take ownership of decisions and actions, keep key executives and stakeholders informed of critical issues and remains steady in the pursuit of corporate goals and objectives.
