JOB TITLE: Head of Real Estate and Housing Credit

LOCATION: London or Birmingham

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days per week) in one of our office hubs mentioned above

About this opportunity

The Head of Real Estate and Housing Credit is a key leadership role responsible for the 2nd line credit team. Managing the Group’s Commercial & Residential Real Estate, Social Housing, House builders and Hotels credit function; covering both Corporate clients and SMEs, with accountability to the Director responsible for the Group’s Business and Commercial Banking credit function, also working directly with the Director of the Corporate and Institutional Banking credit function.

You'll be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the credit risk strategy for the Real Estate & Housing businesses. Conducting oversight and providing assurance of 1LOD activities that ensure the effectiveness of LBG’s Credit Risk controls whilst also acting as a Senior Sanctioner for significant transactions. Against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, the role will deliver sector and product specific credit areas of expertise to support Group and customer requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Portfolio Management: Credit Partner for a custom portfolio in the Corporate Real Estate and Housing sector, Where the bank manages Real Estate, House builders, Hotel and Social Housing clients including SMEs to FTSE 100 companies, with facilities exceeding £30bn.

  • Financial Analysis: Analyzes and rates complex financial accounts and transactions for UK-focused assets with UK and multinational investors.

  • Transaction Leadership: Leads transactions, engaging with 1st and 2nd Line stakeholders (inc. clients, CEO, CFO and Treasury) to structure proposals that meet risk appetite.

  • Technical Insight: Provides detailed technical support for transaction diligence and structuring, including valuation reports, development monitoring, and legal documentation.

  • Risk Management: Identifies and owns credit risks, seeking to improve mitigations or de-risk, and oversees the Risk Management and Control Framework.

  • Data Utilization: Uses internal and external data sources to generate insights and improve decision-making.

  • Policy Shaping: Shapes policy and appetite through sector expertise, supporting the Group’s strategic objectives.

  • Change Management: Leads change management and continuous improvement initiatives, generating market and data insights.

  • Delegated Authority: Maintains significant delegated sanctioning authorities and exercises credit delegated authority as a senior sanctioner.

  • Regulatory Representation: Produces critical regulatory data and represents the Bank at regulatory meetings.

  • Team Leadership: Effectively manages a team, including six senior direct reports.

  • Deputise, as required, for the CIB Corporate Credit Director and/or BCB Credit Director

What we're looking for
  • Real estate debt transaction expertise, whether in a coverage/credit or restructuring environment.

  • Leadership experience managing highly effective team performance

  • Excellent stakeholder management including experience engaging at Executive level in an organization

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills including an ability to manage competing priorities and ambiguity

  • An ability to work at pace and manage multiple demands

Desirable
  • Experience in the House builder and/or Social Housing sector
