JOB TITLE: Business Manager, Merchant Services (12 month Fixed Term Contract)

SALARY: From £57,000 (dependent on experience & location)

LOCATIONS: Bristol / London

HOURS: Full-Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About This Opportunity

Merchant Services provides a diverse range of products and services to merchants from micro merchants to enterprise customers that want to accept payments via a mixture of channels including face to face, online and over the phone. Merchants of all sizes are increasingly demanding and expect a significant level of sophistication in how their payment needs are considered. Merchant Services has received significant investment under the Group Strategic Review demonstrating its strategic importance to the Group.

An exciting fixed term contract opportunity has arisen for a motivated and ambitious colleague to join the team as the Business Manager, to support with the strategy and achieve the growth aspirations within the overall Cardnet Business and as part of the Cardnet Growth Acceleration Programme.

As the Business Manager, you'll be a member of the Merchant Services ELT and therefore expected to represent senior members of the team, engage, and influence the immediate team, the wider Cardnet audience, and the Group. You'll work closely with the Managing Director of Merchant Services and manage the executive office team.

You'll be responsible for ensuring we effectively communicate with partners to support our strategy and key objectives across our Business & Commercial Banking (BCB) division. You'll also support the development of Group-wide relationships which are vital to the team’s success. This creates a highly visible platform to highlight your talent, extend your profile, broaden your network, and deepen your organisational knowledge. You'll have to be a highly motivated and organised self-starter with the flexibility to deal with change and ambiguity.

The Business Manager holds an important position which takes a view across the whole Merchant Services business, otherwise only held by the Managing Director (MD) of the team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the MD in the undertaking of running the business and the team, being instrumental in the team culture.

  • Co-ordinate written input to formal Group and BCB committees and closely monitor the progress of formal actions.

  • Produce high quality presentations on developments and priorities for the team to partners across the bank at all levels.

  • Support delivery of the team strategic and transformational agenda.

  • Lead the cost budget working closely with our finance partner

  • Manage the executive office team

  • Establish and deliver our communication strategy across the team and BCB.

  • Pro-active identification and management of process issues and business risks, ensuring the highest professional awareness of market developments and impending regulatory change.

  • Pro-actively build relationships with the Merchant Services leadership, wider teams, and partners across BCB & Transformation.

  • Develop a strong working relationship with the MD and ELT.

  • Manage governance responsibilities (e.g. quarterly training).

  • Drive the overall team People Agenda.
